One of the great irony of this is that the Tasman racing at Pukekohe, Levin, Wigram, Sandown is actually much more impressive in 1967-69 with much more competitive grids and drivers notably Clark, Ridnt, Rodriquez, Hill and Stewart than appeared in Can Am at the time and even the early years of F5000 in NZ 1970-72 are little below the standard. When the dry laconic voice of Aussie/ Canadian Alan Moffat commentates the opening laps of the 1972 NZGP with Gardiner, McRae, Hailwood, Hobbs and Bartlett going out on the narrow very dangerous rather fast and bumpy Puke track , describing it as terrifying, and some of the worlds best drivers- its actually far more awesome than anything in Can Am at the time other than Jackie Stewart. Part of the reason for the great McLaren Can Am effort is that the late 1960s and even early pre 1972 McLaren F1 cars were never very good or remotely in Lotus/ Brabham class and by the late 1960s Bruce was no longer a competive drive in grand prix or tasman terms. - @Saturday, June 3, 2017 2:19 AM

Just saw the movie, what an absolute legend he was & to many still is, especially Kiwis, his team were incredible, the love they had for Bruce is evident even now 40+ years after his death. - @Tuesday, May 30, 2017 10:59 AM
