Anyone else, who find it rather strange, that none of the crew, except for the Captain and First Mate, ever utters a single word? They are there only when needed, but never seen during other times. Nor are their quarters ever seen... - @Monday, February 5, 2018 2:39 PM

I saw movie 3 times, and I read book .Yes,I like captain but he has difficult personality. So,in movie his is not a positive character. In movie he is a complicated this is truth but not good. The book shows a glimpse of the captain's nobility, but he also has strong dark side, and I'm not sure if he wants to save Ned and Counsil without the professor (maybe if the woman was with this two). He is very well educated ,genius engineer, well behaved but has a darkness insite.People said he's noble, not really. He killed hundreds of sailors without a blink of an eye (book), he then suffered, played the organ, even (in the book) we know he was crying, some time had nervous breakdown, the captain was not emotionally stable (probably through his tragic past) but hellish intelligent. He treated Ned like a ball (book) and I'm sure he would leave him in the water if not a professor. If Ned will be a woman captain would probably save him, but Ned was a man and it was proboscale (book) because he was curious, loud, and he tried to run away. Captain in the book is not killed. The parts of the book is "The children of Captain Grant," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and "Mysterious Island". - @Wednesday, November 8, 2017 3:01 PM

I was just thinking how nice it was that nobody had done a stupid modern remake of _20,000 Leagues Under the Sea._ So of course I had to Google it and, sure enough, Bryan Singer—the man who's been busy directing instant-classic films like _Superman Returns, X-Men Apocalpyse_ and _Jack the Giant Slayer_ —spent most of last year gearing up a remake set during the Civil War. Fortunately, it looks like maybe the film has stalled. (To be fair, Bryan Singer did direct _The Usual Suspects,_ but that film is mostly recognized for its award-winning writing—which was not the work of Singer.) - @Sunday, September 3, 2017 11:04 PM

- @Tuesday, June 13, 2017 9:50 PM

A nautical league is about 3.45 miles. This means if they really went 20,000 leagues under the sea, not only would they go through the earth and come out the other side, but they would fly out to space. the earth is only 2300 leagues in diameter. - @Saturday, April 8, 2017 8:38 AM

Great cast and effects!  I saw this movie at age 12 several times.   Mason, Kirk Douglas (father of Michael) at almost 100 now.  The novel was one of my favorites.  Cinemascope and Technicolor.  Wide screen, not on some tiny smart phone. I go back to Cinerama and Todd AO.  I loved the fight with the giant squid too. - @Thursday, February 4, 2016 10:07 PM

This is my favourite movie, I loved it since I was 9. I am now 15 and I still love it. I have watched it so many times. They have the best choice of actors. James Mason, Kirk Douglas, Peter Lorrie and Paul Lukas. I love the moves so much I am trying to memorise quotes from the movie. It is a real shame they don't show the classics on TV any more. Most of the younger generation doesn't like it as much, I am an exception. This movie has a powerful message which I can relate to. Kirk Douglas is still alive he is like 97 years old. I remember last year at a shop (The Warehouse) they were selling off the very last copies of the movie for 5NZD, which is really cheap so I bought on. We shall remember this movie and it shall live on. - @Thursday, June 4, 2015 9:18 AM

Such a CLASSIC movie! It used to be on TV all the time when I was a kid (70's & 80's), but I haven't seen it in decades. It's a shame that a lot of classic films are no longer shown on TV... maybe because of the large royalties that would have to be paid for broadcasting them? Or maybe because TV programmers think the modern audience wouldn't appreciate them? Or perhaps there's more money to be made by selling them on DVD and BluRay to old gits like me who remember them fondly. - @Monday, June 1, 2015 11:53 PM

Great effects, talented cast, wonderful score and an awesome retelling of 20,000 Leagues. James Mason sold it as Captain Nemo. Also very dark for a Disney film, it took a big chance and it succeeded. - @Tuesday, March 31, 2015 4:35 AM

- @Tuesday, December 30, 2014 3:20 PM

When I was 10 years old I had seen this film and was deeply impressed. There were no TV in Belgrade at that time ( 1958 ). We, children had to wait at long rows to purchase ticket to movie in " The museum of film art "hall where it had emit and shown only. I often dreamed about this film afterwards. I saw Australian version of that film but Disney's is the best even after such long time. - @Monday, November 4, 2013 10:48 PM
