At an annual pace, a huge colony of ants is forced to collect every piece of food that grows on their island for a group of menacing grasshoppers. But that all changes when a misfit inventor ant named Flik accidentally knocks over the offering pile thus forcing the grasshoppers' devious leader Hopper to force the ants to redo their gathering of food. Despite the fact that his friends don't believe him and desperate to help save the colony, Flik volunteers to go out into the world and search for a group of 'warrior' bugs. Instead, what he got was a talented group of circus performers. But when the grasshoppers return and take control of the island, Flik must prove himself a true hero before it's too late.

I miss old Pixar. I really feel like this movie is extremely underrated. As a kid I really liked Disney, but I was by far much more in love with Pixar. Pixar was my life when I was a kid; I had all the original movies on VHS, except Cars, which was my first Pixar DVD. Flik's line 'I thought you were warriors' and Atta's 'Oooookay' didn't feature in the movie. Presumably they were last minute cuts? Also I love DreamWorks' Antz as well. This trailer introduced me to the song "Baba O'Reilly" by The Who which is the song used in the beginning of this video when the Walt Disney Pictures logo and the clips from Toy Story are shown. I like them both, but I think Antz was the better movie. I saw Antz in the theater. I don't think I saw A Bug's Life in the theater because, at the time, it seemed like a dumbed-down rip-off of Antz. (Yes, I now know that Antz was ripping off A Bug's Life.) It also bothered me that the ants were bluish-white. Why were they bluish-white? No ants look like that. At the time it seemed as if maybe they were rushing it into the theaters to compete with Antz, and hadn't bothered to finish coloring the ants. When I finally saw A Bug's Life--probably on TV--I liked it, but didn't think it was as good as Antz. I can understand why kids might like A Bug's Life more, but I was shocked the first time another adult (who, like me, was adult when the movies came out) casually commented that A Bug's Life was the better movie. Are you kidding me? I can understand A Bug's Life being more popular/successful because it's a more family-friendly film and many people first saw them when they were kids, but among those who were already adults when both movies first came out, I can't understand why anyone would think A Bug's Life is better.
