I've never really considered "A Hard Day's Night" to be a "rock and roll movie." Most so-called "jukebox musicals" were made on extremely low budgets and featured a series of music acts tied together with a thin plot. "A Hard Day's Night" is a breezy, cheeky, anarchic comedy that never fails to charm even 50 years later. Many critics compared it to the best of the Marx Brothers' films. Indeed, the movie would work just as well without the Beatles' songs, which seem inserted pretty much at random. - @Sunday, June 29, 2014 2:47 AM
