After a horrific car accident, Anna (Ricci) wakes up to find the local funeral director Eliot Deacon (Neeson) preparing her for her funeral. Confused, terrified and feeling still very much alive, Anna doesn't believe she's dead, despite the funeral director's reassurances she's merely in transition to the afterlife. Eliot convinces her he has the ability to communicate with the dead and is the only one who can help her. Trapped inside the funeral home, with nobody to turn to except Eliot, Anna's forced to accept her own death. But Anna's grief-stricken boyfriend Paul (Long) can't shake the suspicion that Eliot isn't what he appears to be.

You don't go to a funeral home 8 hours after a serious fucking accident, you sit at the bottom of a hospital. If she's alive, wtf is the point of this whole thing if the guy that's holding her hostage is only around her for like 20 minutes and doesn't even attempt to secure her. I had a dream today.. it was pretty freaky. There was a girl that walked up to me and my friends and said 'hi' but didn't talk much other than that. In like 10 minutes she dropped dead and she was dead for a long time. I remember we were freaking out and we left her there and the paramedics came and put a sheet over her. Like an hour or so later after she had been dead for a while I went back to where she was lying, and she got up. Her skin was pale and her eyes were all yellow... there was this weird/disgusting smell coming from her like formaldehyde an roadkill. She looked at me and said 'hi'. I told her she had been dead for over an hour and asked her what it was like to be dead. She said 'It doesn't matter'. I asked her if there was an afterlife or if anything had happened while she was dead. she said 'No, I didn't even know I had died'. I remember feeling kind of disappointed and sad, but as I was about to leave she grabbed my hand and it was freezing cold. she smiled and I could smell her breath.. it was horrible. My whole body was like petrified as she leaned in and said 'kiss me'. I then noticed that her whole body was cut in half. That's when I woke up. - @Tuesday, August 11, 2015 3:55 PM

This movie is about psycho who probably had some life changing event that lead him to believe it was his duty to bury the ones who did not live. (those of you who watch Criminal Minds will understand) As in people who weren't happy and felt like they had nothing to live for (like Ana). He looked at her knowing there was something missing in her life when she went to her piano teacher's funeral. So it was then that he decided to chose her as one of his victims. He gets them to believe they are dead, when they're really not. That's why he says they "wine" all the time. This movie made me sooo angry. I SWEAR!!! She was too damn close.. DAMMIT!!! She is alive, i was completely sure when i saw the name of the Hydronium Bromide in the shots that he's giving to her to make her look like if she was actually dead, and i am agree with you, the end really S***S, but it was predictable due to the kind of movie. i figured out the movie was going to end that way, in my personal opinion i was hoping that she could get away and get married with her boyfriend and the funeral man putted in jail but no happy ending for this movie, at least not for them :)) - @Sunday, April 26, 2015 8:46 AM

I also took the conclusion she was alive when the breath was on the mirror and he wiped it so she wouldn't see it and well the answer in the end when she breathed on the mirror and realized she wasn't dead fighting to get away them struggling with the mirror. Then he let he mother see her after he gave her the shot but not her bf. Her walking out when he opened the door was lil confusing tho'.... part of the hallucinating? Or could she of kept going? it proved she wasn't happy in life and gave up allowed someone to tlk her into just letting go. The ending was also frustrating. But that's what made it stick with u longer. Deacon was OBVIOUSLY worried at the funeral as well. She is not dead . According to an interview with the director as shown on the film's DVD, Anna was alive, and there are many clues throughout that point to this. Just before Anna's accident, she is being tailgated by a white van that we later learn belongs to Deacon. About 60 minutes into the movie, Anna is in a room with Deacon with a mirror. She admits that she looks like a corpse, closes her eyes, and exhales. Her breath fogs up the mirror, which Deacon wipes away before she reopens her eyes. When Paul is at the police station, one of the cops mentions that a drug exists that could slow heartbeat to almost nothing and cause paralysis. When we see Deacon giving Anna an injection shortly after, the vial has the same name on it. Note that it is pointless to inject a corpse with anything because there is no blood flow and therefore no way to circulate a drug through the body. There is also the scene between Anna and Deacon where she sees her breath condensation on the handheld mirror and panics, screaming "You lied to me!" Deacon is in fact a psychopath, who takes it upon himself to decide who gets to live. The final clue is when Deacon puts Anna's picture on his wall, and we pan out to see all of the pictures. Some of the people have eyes open, other eyes closed. Wojtowicz-Vosloo says that those whose eyes were open were, like Anna, ones who were not really dead. - @Friday, April 24, 2015 1:34 AM
