A few years from now, Earth will have the first contact with an alien civilisation. These aliens, known as Newcomers, slowly begin to be integrated into human society after years of quarantine but are victims of a new type of discrimination. When the first Newcomer police officer, Sam Francisco is assigned his new partner, he is given Matthew Sykes , a mildly racist veteran, the animosity between them soon gives way to respect as they investigate the Newcomer underworld, and especially Newcomer leader William Harcourt.

I actually remember seeing a tv spot back in 88 that used the working title of "Outer Heat". It was written similar to "Alien Nation" except the outer glow was an orange/red instead of a cool green. I also remember the tv teaser's last shot before displaying the title of Outer Heat was a shot of James Caan holding and aiming a big, silver gun. I was mesmerized and never forgot that. A while later, I saw tv spots for Alien Nation and I was scratching my head for a while, waiting in vain, for Outer Heat only to make a realization that somehow, someway, this must be the same movie. No internet back then so no research available to an 11 year old. To this day, I'd love to see this tv spot again. It did exist at one time. Maybe 20th century fox still has it. Gale Anne Hurd? The late 80's had some great but very underrated and overlooked Sci-Fi films (The Hidden (1987), Masters of the Universe (1987), They Live (1988), DeepStar Six (1989), Crime Zone (1989) etc). Alien Nation is one of them - interesting storyline, great acting. It was like "alien" version of Lethal Weapon. Some scenes reminded me The Hidden and RoboCop. Anyway it was awesome Sci-Fi/Crime/Drama. James Caan and Mandy Patinkin did a brilliant job. Too bad they didn't make a sequel with this cast - @Friday, May 6, 2011 4:59 PM
