1999, Claremont, California. Middle-class kids, in their 20s, talk trash, wave guns, hang out in a pack. Johnny Truelove, drug dealer and son of a underworld figure, threatens Jake Mazursky, an explosive head case who owes Johnny money; Jake responds by breaking into Johnny's house. On impulse, Johnny and a couple pals kidnap Jake's 15-year-old brother, Zach. Zach's okay with it, figuring his brother will pay the debt soon. Johnny assigns his buddy Frankie to be Zach's minder, and they develop a brotherly friendship. Zach parties with his captors as things begin to spin out of control. Group think, amorality, and fear of prison assert a hold on the pack. Is Zach in danger?

@graham pressley - How close to your real self is the Keith Stratten character? This movie did a very good job of presenting the case to the public, and the case itself has been interesting to me for years because of its equally savage and tragic feel. I'm the same age as many of the people involved in the case and recall all too well the carefree and easy life that a 19-20 year old would have back in the year 2000, especially if the weed & the drinks were plentiful. It was the kind of young & dumb fun that would make a person blissfully oblivious to anything bad. - @Saturday, January 11, 2014 12:09 AM

I don't care what people say. This is a really great movie! Very tense and emotional... - @Friday, November 22, 2013 8:44 PM

Put it this way: the characters mostly resemble caricatures of all of us, distorted through the lens of an older generation struggling to understand. Best I can do by way of an answer. - @Thursday, October 10, 2013 8:29 PM

Try this scenario on for size and tell me if it doesn't qualify moronic: The police received no less than four eyewitness 911 calls from concerned citizens during and immediately after Nick's kidnap. One even gave the 911 operator the license plate number of the van used to abduct Nick. The Police blew it, blew off the call, probably as just another street fight, and paid for it...to the tune of a 3 million settlement to the Markowitz Family. Your tax dollars. And Nick wouldn't be dead. - @Friday, October 4, 2013 6:11 PM

Why the hell did Truelove (Hollywood) think that the older brother (a known psycho) would pay him for kidnapping his brother in the first place...were they really that mindless and impulsive about it...these guys were fucking morons... - @Tuesday, October 1, 2013 6:17 AM

have you actually watched the whole movie yet or just bits and pieces? - @Wednesday, September 25, 2013 9:52 PM

Well...seven years in jail does make you never want to go back. The movie...40% true. Maybe. Nick Cassavetes did his best with the info that was given...all supplied by the district Attorney's Office. Jesse Rugge's "confessions" were suppressed by the Judge in our cases because he ruled that the Detectives, during interrogation, had threatened him with the Death Penalty. So that left just Hoyt and me. Hoyt didn't say much...so the story was heavily based upon what I told the Police... - @Wednesday, September 25, 2013 6:37 PM

@graham pressley I liked the movie because it shows how twisted human beings can be I don't mean to be nosy but I do wonder how the real case played out if you could tell me and I hope you have improved in your life - @Thursday, September 19, 2013 9:18 PM

Instead of arguing why don't you guys reply to a question of mine: why did you two (mycrazeee and LobsterRoc) like the movie? Having lived it, I'd enjoy the thoughts of people who have actually seen the film. Thanks. - @Wednesday, September 18, 2013 11:05 PM

Just catching up on the theatrical portrayal of my life. I got out of jail in 2007 but could never really bring myself to troll the internet looking at all of this stuff until now. Bizarre to say the least. My character was Keith Stratten...I guess I have the right to speak to the fidelity of that character---not really very close at all. But I guess that's the nature of caricature...isn't it? - @Thursday, September 12, 2013 3:49 PM

Very underrated movie, the acting was pretty good, was surprised by JT's performance, and the story was one of the best true stories I've ever seen put to film. - @Thursday, August 29, 2013 8:34 PM

Because you don't get how deep they are in the movie. Do you think they will give the brother back just because his older brother have the money? They don't care about the money anymore. It's about pride and the older brother knows that. - @Saturday, March 16, 2013 2:56 AM
