In the early 70's, Commander Nathan Walker, Captain Ben Anderson and Lieutenant Colonel John Grey are assigned in a secret mission to the Moon to protect the USA from USSR using detectors. Nathan and Ben land on the Moon in the Liberty module while John stays in orbit in the module Freedom. They collect rock samples and bring them to the Liberty. They also find footprints and the body of a Soviet cosmonaut on the moon. Soon they hear weird noises and they find that they are not alone in the satellite.

This plot is just silly. This would be the only mission that had interior mounted cameras, and any other mission had strict abort rules, like 20 seconds left of fuel, they must abort back to orbit with CM. Maybe I've been watching too much Cinema Sins, but the whole part of this movie where Apollo 18 is a secret classified mission makes no sense. I mean its possible for NASA to have classified side objective, or they could classify what happened, and what they found up there. But how can you hide the launch of a Saturn V? This lack of transparency often makes people extremely uncomfortable as they feel their respective governments withheld disturbing information about the consequences of spaceflight. This film could have capitalised on these emotions with tremendous success, its inclusion of uninspired spider-like creatures potentially unnecessary. The Moon is the perfect setting for a claustrophobic psychological horror, with imagery such as the deserted Soviet LK lunar lander adding significantly to the disturbing secrecy of the time.
