A Greek Fisherman brings an Atlantean Princess back to her homeland which is the mythical city of Atlantis. He is enslaved for his trouble. The King is being manipulated by an evil sorcerer who is bent on using a natural resource of Atlantis to take over the world. The Atlanteans, or rather the slaves of Atlantis, are forced to mine a crystalline material which absorbs the suns rays. These crystals can then be used for warmth. The misuse of science has created weapons out of the crystals that can fire a heat ray to destroy whatever it touches.

Craftsman Sheng Can we get 10K Subs
the only redeeming quality of this movie was the special effect of the sinking of Atlantis and that scene of burning Atlantis in sea of fire , imagine they had to build a big ass pool and simulate the pool of water to looks like sea and building crumble into the water, lots of effort have put into that, that sub is pretty cool too, if hollywood is too free nothing better to do they can try remake this but it better be good. - @Sunday, January 28, 2018 10:59 AM

George Pal's story of Atlantis uses many elements that seem to come for the Edgar Cayce Readings on Atlantis: the man-beasts, the Great Crystal that could be used for good or evil, the corruption. More than one of George Pal's movies deals with religious or quasi-religious themes. - @Thursday, June 15, 2017 5:42 PM

I'm old enough to have seen it when it was first released. I've seen a number of times since; I've still got a soft spot for it.  And from time to time it does show up on TCM. Monster fans of a certain age (ahem) will remember with affection Forry Ackerman, whose magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland shaped many of our lives. Forry had the original (and very large) model of the Atlantean submarine in his back yard here in Los Angeles. The only problem being that the front half had been stolen by a sly fan or two (he always kept an open house for monster movie fans) and only the rear end remained. You might want to check out Gun Crazy, a 1950 noir, dir. by Joe H Lewis, which starred a young John Dall. - @Thursday, October 8, 2015 1:14 AM

This film used snippets from several movies, including "Last Days of Pompeii" and, quite possibly, "Quo Vadis" (tho I thought that was a later film.) A common practice, back in the day. - @Thursday, June 27, 2013 8:33 PM

OK somebody help me out here. Why am I seeing scenes from Quo Vadis in this movie? Did Metro Goldwyn Mayer run out of money for special effects? - @Friday, January 18, 2013 8:12 PM

I watched this as a kid in the 1980s. At the end it shows a map of the world and all the different races going to different parts of the world from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. I said to my Dad who walked in the room: 'Is that how people got to where they are now?" He said "Probably, but no-one knows for sure."!!! - @Wednesday, October 17, 2012 3:25 PM

The Princess of Atlantis was SO beautiful. The movie came out the year I was born, so she's an old lady now. The special effects were typical top-notch Hollywood SPFX by effects master A. Arnold Gillespie. - @Monday, October 15, 2012 11:34 PM

Hm, instead of 40 lashes, rather eat a cake instead. By the way, they are making a new 'Hindenburg' like big airship, but one that is safe and does not need people to land. - @Wednesday, October 3, 2012 5:40 AM

Kings of Kings was a dud, but you are right MGM had the money, but for whatever reason they obviously did not wanted to spend it on Atlantis. - @Monday, October 1, 2012 5:11 AM

Check out the possibly real Atlantis, 'The Minoan Empire'. The Minoans were nothing like that cheap movie depicted the Atlantians. There were peacful and artistic, cultured people. - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 2:10 PM

And pray tell, how could you forget his quite significent role in "Spartacus" ? - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 2:04 PM

Save your money, it is a cheaply made movie and you will be disappointed. - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 2:00 PM

Feuerdragon1
Those cheap movies where made with a very, very small buget, and often used scenes from another movie (Like the animal scenes in a Tarzan Movie). It's a money matter, not a lack of effort. - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 1:58 PM

Feuerdragon1
All you refere to are not facts but merely myth and legends, which have their place of course. Altlantis, or the rather the much more likely real Atlantis, The Minoan Empire, was destroyed by a huge vulcanic explosion on Thera (Santorini) and the following Tsunami devastated Crete the seat and base of Minoa - not by a fictional Noah's flood or a great depravity by the Atlantians (Minoans). - @Sunday, September 30, 2012 1:54 PM

John1:1-51KJB
Atlantis is what they called the Old World before it was destroyed by the Great Flood of Noah. They had highly advanced technology even higher than today but great depravity as well. A lot of comparisons can be made between then and now. The average person back then lived hundreds of years, with 100's of IQ. We haven't Evolved at all rather DE-evolved to what we are today. - @Tuesday, September 18, 2012 8:32 AM
