Austenland is a romantic comedy about 30-something, single Jane Hayes, a seemingly normal young woman with a secret: her obsession with Mr. Darcy-as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice-is ruining her love life; no real man can compare. But when she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined.

She asks what separates amateur fans from the real fans...? Uhhh... well, for starters, real Jane Austen fans don't harp on about Pride and Prejudice constantly (like they did here). The people who've actually read her works know, just as well as Jane did, that while P&P is wonderfully well-written and fun to read, it represented the least of her extraordinary talents. But it's the one that appeals to the masses because indulges in the most dramatic wish fulfilment, and so when a woman won't shut about about Pride and Prejudice, or says it's her favourite Austen novel, you can be 90% sure that she hasn't read any others, or perhaps hasn't even read that one. - @Monday, February 10, 2014 2:18 AM
