Stranded in 1955, Marty McFly receives written word from his friend, Doctor Emmett Brown, as to where can be found the DeLorean time machine. However, an unfortunate discovery prompts Marty to go to his friend's aid. Using the time machine, Marty travels to the old west where his friend has run afoul of a gang of thugs and has fallen in love with a local schoolteacher. Using the technology from the time, Marty and Emmett devise one last chance to send the two of them back to the future.

Enjoyed the second one, but thought it wasn't anything amazing. Just finished the third however, and it's something really, really special. The Western setting worked really well, and the film looked beautiful! More than that however, it was a really special ending to the trilogy, being both joyful and poignant. Another interesting tidbit is that Zemeckis/Gale really had no interest in making sequels but Universal basically told them sequels were getting made either way, so they figured might as well be them that takes care of their creation. Sounds like that gave them the freedom to just have fun and be clever with all the criss-crossing through time and the groundbreaking split screen effects. BTTF2 was certainly one of the more atypical sequels ever made. - @Wednesday, April 4, 2012 6:20 AM
