Los Angeles and other cities around the world are being bombarded by meteors that seem to be slowing down once they hit the earth's atmosphere. The earth is suddenly being invaded by space aliens that have landed off the shore of LA, and who begin killing everybody along the beach. The military is ordered into action. Marine Staff Sergeant Nantz (Aaron Eckhart), who was about to retire, is reassigned to a new platoon. The platoon, flown by chopper to the forward operating base at Santa Monica Airport, is being led by a new 2nd Lt. Martinez (Ramon Rodriguez). They are sent on a mission to rescue some civilians who are trapped at the police station within alien territory. They only have 3 hours to complete their mission and get out before the Air Force bombs that zone.

Watched this movie around 6 times now and enjoyed it every time. It occurs to me though if aliens had the technology to cross the vast expanse of space to get here and wanted our planet I believe it would be like taking candy from a baby as I don't see us being able to put up any realistic opposition to such an advanced race. i love this movie, but im sure that CCCP and China solve the problem in a a day, by nuke-ing the occupied territories. Even better, if they hae some time to think, they would detonate high above the surface for the EMP efect. I cant see how aliens could win a war against human kind with no energy shields, if thie is something possible. We are too many, well armed, at need any of us around the world can be equiped with some smg or AR. Want to wipe out human kind with no losses? Pretty sure this was the last best Alien/Action movie that Hollywood had to offer. Before this it most definitely had to be District 9. For Mystery/Horror Alien movies I gotta say Arrival & Extraterrestral was good. We need more good Alien movies.
