In the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women's movement, the 1973 tennis match between women's world champion Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-men's-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed as the BATTLE OF THE SEXES and became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. As the rivalry between King and Riggs kicked into high gear, off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles. The fiercely private King was not only championing for equality, but also struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, as her friendship with Marilyn Barnett (Andrea Riseborough) developed. And Riggs, one of the first self-made media-age celebrities, wrestled with his gambling demons, at the expense of his family and wife Priscilla (Elisabeth Shue). Together, Billie and Bobby served up a cultural spectacle that resonated far beyond the tennis court, sparking discussions in bedrooms ...

Lol y’all shitting yourself with rage over this movie yet I never hear y’all complain about movies that don’t even pass the bechdel test or portray women as less than. lol your loss if you don’t want to watch this film because it was beautifully shot and written and tbh if the simple idea of this film pisses you off then y’all gotta get your priorities straight - @Saturday, August 25, 2018 6:11 AM

Everyone's commenting about how this movie is so "feminist", the fuck? It's a true story about how a woman but this man-baby in his place. He's the damn one that wanted the match to happen, he convinced a lot of people that he would win. He thought he was such a "strong" male that he could beat a female player even if she was younger and more fit - he thought he would beat her anyways because she was a woman. It's not about who's in their prime, back then everyone shared thoughts with the people in these comments unfortunately, and thought that because he was a man, no matter what he could beat a woman. Are you saying that this man is weaker than a woman??? But you just said... biologically men are stronger... but you also just said that this woman is in her prime, so she's stronger than a man?? Y'all are dumb af. My dad is 53 and is probably stronger than a woman in her twenties-thirties, but what it actually depends on is who is in shape. - @Friday, August 17, 2018 4:38 PM

Everyone knows that if a woman tennis player in her prime played a male tennis player in his prime, the man wins 99 times out 100. And it's only not 100 out of 100 because of laws of averages. This is fact. Get over it women. - @Thursday, July 19, 2018 2:01 AM

Let's have a true Battle of the Sexes, Have the number #1 ranked Man and Women have a 5-set match, the #50 ranked for each do the same and the #100 ranked. Have the NBA and WNBA Champs play against one another, Have the top ranked Men's and Women's Soccer teams square off. The top golfers, bowlers, baseball, etc. compete vs one another. Let's put this argument to rest once and for all. - @Saturday, April 7, 2018 4:36 PM

“We want a little bit of what you got, that’s what you can’t stand...” ...I’ll respond to that with a quote from Bill Burr: “All women want is the GOOD shit of being a guy, they’re CHERRYPICKING!” - @Tuesday, March 6, 2018 2:17 PM

I was a young boy when this played out. It was all the pathetic media talked about back then much like they can't stop talking today about Trump. Trump tweeted, how dare he. Trump got two scoops of ice cream. How dare he.........blah blah blah. Aging Man loses to young woman. So what. - @Thursday, February 8, 2018 11:31 PM

None of this changed any of the reality of the differences and yes inequality between men and women. Riggs put on a show and lost to King on purpose. But it doesnt change a single thing if he had been trying. McEnroe spoke the truth: obvious truth that the equality emperor has NO clothes. Enough. WE have womens sports explicitly because of their inequality and inferiority across the board. The Jordan Peterson vs Cathy Newman interview is just another example of this lie behind skewed, But it will try again !!! - @Sunday, January 28, 2018 4:08 PM

This trailer is deceptive. Bobby Riggs is only in about 10% of the movie. They should call the movie "the Billie Jean King Story." It does nothing to shed light on who Bobby Riggs really was and his accomplishments. It was made to slander his reputation and make him look like a bozo. - @Thursday, January 25, 2018 1:39 AM

All the GOOD guys in this movie take their rejection and cuckoldry like good, well-behaved boys! This movie is also called “Battle of the Sexes.” I’m excited to see how this movie ends - @Monday, January 15, 2018 10:35 AM

OMG! Battle of the Sexes?! WHO’S GONNA WIN?! Hey, Sarah Silverman is costarring in a film called “Battle of the Sexes!” I wonder who’s going to win in a BATTLE OF THE SEXES, when Sarah Silverman has signed on to do a movie just so named! It’s just so EXCITING, and don’t none of you spoil the ending to a movie released by left coast elitist Hollywood that has what looks like a husband-ditching lesbian in the lead role, and is called “Battle of the Sexes!” None of you spoil the ending! I want to see this movie SO HARD because I wanna see how it ends! - @Monday, January 15, 2018 9:16 AM

Wow. More movies like this. Men like me want a girlfriend and eventually a wife. Fuck Hollywood. Trying 2 make me a homosexual. Fuck them. Just like how I can't make women love me and meet my standards, I'm not gonna change either. I'm glad MGTOW exists now. - @Friday, October 13, 2017 7:59 PM

The agenda is working, since you fools believe whatever you're told no matter how ridiculous it is. They've brainwashed you into thinking women can compete against men. And you think it's a wonderful historical accomplishment for the best female player in the world to beat a fat old man, 40 years ago, and it's never happened again. So you simultaneously think that that's the best women can do, which means women suck at tennis, but somehow you also manage to believe the exact opposite at the same time - that women can do whatever men can do. - @Friday, October 6, 2017 12:37 AM

I honestly lost all fucking faith in humanity just by looking at this comment section. The fact that people are saying women are good for nothing and "this movie is trying to make men looks like shit" is so fucking ridiculous. First off, this shit ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Like seriously does that make any sense? To say "this movie trying to..." like NO THESE MEN WERE REAL, WHAT THEY SAID WAS REAL, THEIR SEXISM WAS REAL. This movie ain't trying to make men look bad its showing what men were like back then, so if you think that then you acknowledge how shitty men were. It's a fucking got damn shame that people still think the fucking same as the men in this movie. All you pieces of shit saying "feminism is cancer" "feminazis" "women belong in the kitchen" "fuck women!" Are the reason why we need feminism. There are still people who seriously think like this? I've never felt more empowered to fight for equality. - @Monday, September 25, 2017 9:50 PM

Who's going to win? Women! Because if they don't it will be the L.A. Riots all over again. Feminism isn't for equality, it's for female domination. - @Sunday, September 24, 2017 12:04 AM

Honestly can everyone just in the comments just enjoy that their trying to make a movie about a true story that inspired millions of players ( both men and women) in the 70s and today?! If it weren't for strong, smart , competitive players who stick up for what they believe in like Billie jean king, Chris evert, and John McEnroe I would never have loved the game of tennis so much. I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to seeing this movie! - @Saturday, September 23, 2017 6:08 PM

Here is something about tennis...as in ALL sports, the vast majority of the revenue comes from TV money, which comes from advertising, which means they are going to be able to air fewer commercials and therefore make less revenue? So why SHOULD women get the same payouts when they play only 3 set matches. Your pay should be based on what value you bring in to the company. - @Friday, September 22, 2017 11:22 AM

Wow..Hollywood LOVES its fiction, doesn't it? Just for the people that are too young to know about this...No..it was NOT a serious thing. Bobby Riggs was basically playing a wrestling style heel. It was all a set up. The match was basically a joke. A total exhibition. It meant NOTHING and no one thought it did. (Even though he was WELL past his playing days, she got to use the doubles alleys and I think he was allowed only one serve..so her winning certainly didn't mean anything.) It was not seen as a victory for women. In fact, many saw it as just the opposite. There was certainly no "global conversation on gender equality" because of this - @Friday, September 22, 2017 11:19 AM

I wonder if the movie brings up the fact that Riggs and King played by different rules that were to her advantage. He got 1 serve she got 2. He had to use the singles court while she could use the doubles court. Huge advantage. - @Thursday, September 21, 2017 2:51 PM
