Having lived a life in selfishness, a young prince is cursed by a mysterious enchantress to having the appearance of a monstrous beast. His only hope is to learn to love a young woman and earn her love in return in order to redeem himself. Years later, his chance shows itself when a young maiden named Belle offers to take her ill father's place as his prisoner. With help from the castle's enchanted staff, Belle learns to appreciate her captor and immediately falls in love with him. Back in the village however, an unscrupulous hunter has his own plans for Belle.

This was part of my childhood, sure, there was other films, television shows and cartoons that were also part of my childhood but this film was also part of it. I'm not sure if anyone brought this up, but why exactly is Belle classified as a Disney Princess? She is the daughter of an inventor, and she was never seen marrying The Beast nor has been mentioned doing so, unlike the other Disney Princesses up until the film's release who we've seen actually had marriages at the end of the movie (though "Snow White" was never seen to be married either, yet *was* a Princess by birth; "Cinderella" was *_previously_* the only Disney Princess to not be an actual Princess by birth) - @Thursday, May 31, 2018 4:38 PM

When I was little, it kinda irked me that the guy referred to Belle as a "beautiful young girl". I remember telling my mom, "She's not a young girl, she's a young woman. She's a grownup, not a kid. " Hey, I was five at the time. That was when my mom explained that even young adult women are called girls up to the age of at least 30, which now, at the age of 31, still kinda irks me. An adult female human is a woman, just like an adult male human is called a man. Whatever, I still absolutely loved Beauty and the Beast. its crazy but i swear this looks so much better than the remastered version to me! Like i saw the blu-ray version on ABC a few months ago and looking at this trailer the VHS version came back to my memory and just looks so much better with its grittyness because it made the beautiful parts shine about more in its darkness. Because this was a movie that had some dark parts to it that were a little scary and cool as a kid like the wolves in the forest scene. Maybe i'm biased but i like to think that as a filmmaker I can separate my nostalgia glasses from a critique in the way a movie looks you know? But thats just me. - @Friday, March 3, 2017 6:49 PM
