Arthur Bartley and Janet Willard are fairly typical 1950s teenagers. Their lives are turned upside down however when Janet becomes pregnant. Desperate to tell his parents of the predicament they find themselves in, Arthur finds that he cannot do so. He arranges for Janet to have an abortion, but the internal turmoil this causes him finally forces him to tell his father, who races to save the girl from the back room abortionist.

This was the film that Nancy Clutter and her bf, Bobby Rupp, were planning on seeing the night of Saturday, November 14th, 1959 in Garden City, Kansas. Due to Nancy's not getting home till nearly 2AM the night before, her father--Herb Clutter--would not permit her to go, instead allowing Bobby to come to the Clutter farm, in Holcomb, Kansas, and watch TV. Bobby left at 11pm and, in less than two-hours, Nancy, her father, her mother Bonnie & brother Kenyon would all be dead; all shot in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun held 2 inches away. I think what Joan Crawford is doing in the trailer is this: she's hawking the movie "The Best of Everything," in which she starred in the same year. At least, she's talking from the set that's supposed to be her office in that movie. Other name stars who were in that movie were Louis Jourdan, Brian Aherne, Suzy Parker, Hope Lange, Diane Baker, Stephen Boyd and several others. "The Best of Everything" has a fine theme song and its plot also involves unwed pregnancy. It was supposed to be Joan Crawford's big "comeback" film, but I don't know whether it fulfilled its expectations.
