I'm from Austin, Texas. Brian was only 3yrs. older than me so I understand the punk lifestyle quite well. I didn't preferably like the music, clothes, and the things that went with it. But, I had good friends that did like it. I didn't judge or dislike anyone for their appearance. It's what's inside the person that counts. Just don't understand how or why people can be so hateful because of what they like. I didn't expect this movie to capture me like it did. To see what happened to Brian really broke my heart. I can't believe that P. O. S walked!!! For the defender to say that day was justified, makes me sick. He was ran down and murdered. I saw this movie just now, and I can tell you as a Antifa Member I hated this movie so much, I like it that they do blame it on teenage white american, but a total miss to spread diversity, or LGBQT+ love story, Could the main character at least fall in love with a Transgender African American? why a cis white male fall in love with a cis white girl? as in that narrative hasn't been push enough! If your going to make the leading character at least give it to someone who studies Islam, or Mexican to play the role of a cis male. I am tired on the behave of my White privilege people glorifying the innocent white boy. I mean sure I feel the pain on what happen to Brain but seriously why can't it be played by another actor who isn't a cis male, If is going to be played by a white guy, can it at least be acted by a Transgender/Fluid or anything? Its actually a story about who have a better lawyer, do you even see the effort from the brian deneke lawyer.. fuck me, tf was that? No effort at all. The jury are open minded to choose whom they see as the wrong one in this case. But brian has been demonized so bad and no solid defense from his lawyer. But that is what lawyer do, they demonize their opponent. His motivation (the lawyer) is not towards punk subculture, its about money (its his job anyway). Yes, brian deneke was killed and need justice, of course.. but his lawyer are doing a bad job getting it. (Can you see any solid arguement from him in this movie?) The jock lawyer does not represent society, the jury doesnt represent society. The jury only decide to sides with the one who make a better case. This movie does not represent punk subculture, it only show a drama of peoples making a bad choices in their life. Both part are guilty in exercising stupid behaviour, the jock bullying the punks in the first place, the punks retaliate using aggresive behaviour and without reporting it to the police. To be fair, the police might not be interested in their case because of their appearance.. then you can blame the police. But still, its the right thing to do. But they choose to act agressively/stupidly and suffer the consequences. This is the moral of the story in my opinion. Do you honestly think that is very wise for them to retaliate in that way? They are not being judged by the society because of their looks in the first place, thats the lawyer job to use any stereotype to win the case. Its a court drama that being politicized by the any subculture to defend their representation. (Its okay to say "do not judge people by its cover". But this is a bad movie to do that kind of manifesto"). And why we shut our eyes by the way the punks (in the movie) handling the situation, is it a way that we encourage our kids to do when dealing with this kind of situation? You'll be the judge. Marilyn manson phrase at the end of the movie is oversimplifying the whole brian deneke situation and leads the masses to focus on the wrong thing. But of course they are quick to support him because he defend their way of life, not only defending that speech strengthen it. Again the moral of the story is stop making stupid decision, if brian deneke and his friend act wisely.. they will be a great artist, or hell.. maybe even change the world. P/s: All said and done, its a tribute to brian deneke, may he rest in peace. May we learn a thing or two in this incident. Dont let this movie fuel your anger toward anyone and any faction , represent yourself, be the best you, make wise decision and tame your demons (By this i also mean anger).
