Through the stories of workers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China, Catching the Sun captures the global race to lead the clean energy future. Over the course of a solar jobs training program, Catching the Sun follows the hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar industry. With countries like China investing in innovative technologies and capitalizing on this trillion-dollar opportunity, Catching the Sun tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change with their own hands. Their successes and failures speak to one of the biggest questions of our time: will the U.S. actually be able to build a clean energy economy?

I've seen this documentary, and in it there was this guy who was going to class to teach him how to install panels. He finished that course, and couldn't find a job. I see how it is, not everyone are lucky. He lives with his wife and they talked about frustration about paying bills. and later on, despite that he didn't have a job, they installed panels on his house, and I was like WHAT? WTF? How can they afford that? Did thy get some benefits or what, I'm still puzzled over this. - @Thursday, April 26, 2018 9:35 AM

So...if solar solves coal fire power plants...how does it actually affect the need for the chevron plant?....the no products are what makes those cool fans and plastic wires and the clothing they are all wearing lol....when green energy is profitable...oil will still be there and first energy and the companies you protest will own it lol - @Tuesday, June 14, 2016 9:44 PM

You don't need anyone's permission to install or use solar energy regardless of what the policy is - @Wednesday, May 11, 2016 5:37 PM

One place (not the only one, but one of the oldest) to get ~qualified~ training in all aspects of installing solar power is this school in Colorado: highly recommended. imho. http://www.solarenergy.org/vacation-activities/ - @Monday, April 25, 2016 11:05 PM

Great. It's the only clean reliable way, I've got 2kw of panels on my house now. everyone should, the sooner the better. - @Friday, April 8, 2016 3:45 PM

The movie totally ignore the need to build 100 panel solar homes to create jobs that cannot be off-shored. No mention of the need for Utilities to pay $0.99 kwh to homeowners who sell solar onto the grid. Lacks a class analysis. The movie has no socially redeeming points. - @Friday, April 1, 2016 2:22 AM
