Jamie (Cera) is a boorish, insensitive American twentysomething traveling in Chile, who somehow manages to create chaos at every turn. He and his friends are planning on taking a road trip north to experience a legendary shamanistic hallucinogen called the San Pedro cactus. In a fit of drunkenness at a wild party, Jamie invites an eccentric woman -- a radical spirit named Crystal Fairy (Hoffmann) -- to come along. What is meant to be a devil-may-care journey becomes a battle of wills as Jamie finds himself locking horns with his new traveling companion. But on a remote, pristine beach at the edge of the desert, the magic brew is finally imbibed, and the true adventure begins.

I understood why people hated this movie because they were expecting a classic american comedy plotline mixing chaos and epic punchlines and shit, so yeah it's reasonable to feel some kinda disappointed after watching this movie; however, if you're more attentive to the movie rather than the conventional expectations, you will be fascinated on how this movie is so rad and so simply made, but at the same time the aesthetic effort cannot be denied, the cinematography was amazing and inspiring for aspiring filmmakers, but the magic of Michael Cera will really just hit you by the way he acts pathetically flamboyant was just worth watching the film until the end despite the very monotonous story this movie has, it is so far his best acting performance. As a general rule of thumb, if it has "Sundance film festival" anywhere in the trailer or on the box cover, you'd probably do well to skip it. I'm sure there are exceptions, but this movie definitely isn't one of them. Not the actors fault either, they did pretty well, considering the lines they were given. The camera work was pretty good too, but it's just a really polished piece of shit. It's minimalist to the point of redundancy, but despite that, people will defend it because they look for meaning where there is none, and they like to have a couple extremely obscure 'artsy' movies to reference to show everyone how pseudo-cultured they are. PS: There's nothing wrong with hairy pussy, people should accept that some people don't like to shave, but THAT SHIT was objectively too much fucking hair. At that point show some fucking hygiene awareness and trim that shit a bit.
