In the excavation of Pompeii, a stone-encrusted body is found with a bronze medallion bearing a strange Etruscan inscription. Carlo Fiorillo, Italian archaeologist, speculates the robust body may hold some life; medical researcher Paul Mallon scoffs at the idea. But people left alone with the seemingly petrified "faceless man" keep dying of crushed skulls; and Paul's artist fiancée Tina starts having strange visions...

When I was 8 or 9 years old, I thought I was ready to watch real horror movies on the late Friday night "Fright Theater." There I was in my pajamas and this film started. I watched, riveted, until the scene where you see the hand grabbing and clawing out of the sand...My sister said, "Are you SURE you want to see this?" Production values and story on it are good enough to have sent a 12-year-old (me) into fits while babysitting one night. Couldn't watch it again for ten years.
