Set in Melbourne in the mid-1970s, Cut Snake tells the story of Sparra Farrell (Alex Russell), an ex-convict who is trying to make a new life for himself in a new city. He has found honest work and even becomes engaged but the prospect of this new life is challenged when his foreboding and charismatic cell mate Pommie (Sullivan Stapleton) tracks him down upon his own release. Sparra finds himself enigmatically drawn back toward a world and a man that he was certain he had wanted to leave behind.

Again a film where guy chooses girl over another guy! Very typical and another fairytale where they lived happily ever after! Wasted my time on this shit! - @Wednesday, January 6, 2016 11:22 PM

Cut Snake is a success. I saw it today. It is better than Animal Kingdom and better than low rent, awful Snowtown. The Sparra character is handsome, he resembles Ashton Kutcher at times. Film is about crime, the past, relationships and secrets: how well do we really know a person?  Facts are revealed judiciously and well in this film. The 1974 setting is authentic and true to life. The Pommy character is almost as powerful as David Wenham in 1998's The Boys, if a tad less mesmerizing.   Cut Snake covers relationship terrain that really has not been covered in many Aussie films before. I liked the fact that the cast is relatively unknown, this is a definite plus for me as a viewer. Perhaps a bit limited in setting- lots of back streets and factories and dusty roads, I would have liked a few historical references, something about Whitlam or Metrics introduction or inflation or something to put it in context. However, the cast does look 1970s, the women look from the period. The blonde hooker that Pommy is rough on, looks from the 1970s.   Holding the Man and Cut Snake are my duo of Aust films for 2015. Liked them both- a lot. - @Monday, September 28, 2015 9:30 AM
