Action Drama Romance War

7.3 / 10

March 15, 1939: Germany invades Czechoslovakia. Czech and Slovak pilots flee to England, joining the RAF. After the war, back home, they are put in labor camps, suspected of anti-Communist ideas. This film cuts between a post-war camp where Franta is a prisoner and England during the war, where Franta is like a big brother to Karel, a very young pilot. On maneuvers, Karel crash lands by the rural home of Susan, an English woman whose husband is MIA. She spends one night with Karel, and he thinks he's found the love of his life. It's complicated by Susan's attraction to Franta. How will the three handle innocence, Eros, friendship, and the heat of battle? When war ends, what then?

They are human too and Britain wasn't ready for a war and didn't want to fight but in the end they did the right thing. Unfortunately the USSR was a fact that was hard to deal with but even then, eventually, it was defeated peacefully too and now we can all get along. We are a lucky generation. - @Thursday, May 16, 2013 6:59 PM

The Poles and Czechs kicked a.... over there. Polish 303 Sq was the best scoring RAF unit in BoB. The thanks for that was that they were excluded in the victory parade in London after the war. British imperialism/colonialism at its 'best'... - @Sunday, November 4, 2012 6:47 AM

Tohle doufám není oficiální trailer. Tam vykecali úplně celý film, to už si to člověk ani nemusí pouštět, tam bylo doslova všechno podstatné... - @Friday, October 14, 2011 2:50 AM

- @Thursday, October 13, 2011 8:47 PM

@boudiSVK Tyyyy vole, tohle mě dokáže vždycky nadzvednout ze židle! Ty to co o historii nevíš, to si domyslíš a domotáš v té nejzkurvenější variantě, co tě napadne. - @Thursday, October 13, 2011 8:43 PM

@Mark123USA Actually, they wanted to do both...they wanted to save their countries by saving Britain. Because it was the very last free state in Europe. - @Friday, August 26, 2011 11:02 AM

Let us not forget some of the french pilots who joined RAF and the Soviet Air Force to fight against Naziism. - @Monday, August 22, 2011 7:07 PM

@Jaceric2 Well the Polish and Checkoslovakian pilots joined the RAF, for the preservation of their countries, not the British Isles. - @Monday, August 22, 2011 7:07 PM

@keler500 My sme vas zradili??? Alebo beneš ktory najskor nechal zabiť štefanika a potom On podpisal mnichovsku dohodu . - @Tuesday, July 26, 2011 1:13 PM

let us remember and honor the Czechoslovakish ( 310th ), Polish ( 303th ) Canadians ( 401th ) pilots who left home and country to fight for the salvation of the british isles... not to mention of RAF ofc ! - @Friday, July 8, 2011 4:07 PM

@sssummmak yeah you speak for me,and i dont mind!(in this case :) )...I dont pray for them to die, but, yeah, our country will do better without those old twats!!!Snad si nase komentare zahranicni navstevnici prectou,a dozvi se neco o nasi zemi... - @Monday, June 13, 2011 2:28 PM

@Lokvinho The saddest part of it is there are still people who vote communist or even say bull***ts like that communism was better and blah blah blah... The 40 years of communism led to the total cultural, moral, economical and national destruction... luckily for us it won't take long before those old farts die... Not that I wish them to die, but you know it'll be better for all of us :) pozdravy z Mlado-Boleslavska - @Sunday, June 12, 2011 1:08 AM

@sssummmak thats true, our destiny was chosen, but not by us...unfortunately,Edvard Benes have made a demision)i guess),and let Gottwald the "throne",but not all have fallen under the propaganda, few days before the demison,a democratic demonstration was held on Prague castle by students etc... i think that 50 years of communism almost destroyed the good what was left in my nation, everyone just dont care about anything, just satisfied with that little ehat he has...sad....Pozdravy z Krkonoš .-) - @Saturday, June 11, 2011 5:19 PM

@punipunipunisher Yea russian collaborators "vlasovci" aided the uprising of resistance but without them we would be fucked cause there still was relatively big german army which wanted to flee west to be captured by americans and czech resistence kept them from passing through Prague... Americans couldt help us because fo conference in Yalta, so Czechs had to wait for USSR troops... - @Friday, June 3, 2011 8:36 PM

punipunipunisher
@sssummmak Just take a look at the "Czech uprising". Who did it? Mostly collaborators (including the Russian ones). When it took place? When the war was fucking over. And still it was almost a disaster. But the Czech pilots in the west were indeed very good. One of them was in fact the best ace of the first 2 weeks of the Battle of Britain, until his strange death (apparently he crashed his plane on purpose in an act of suicide). - @Friday, June 3, 2011 3:21 PM

Tomáš Pecák
@punipunipunisher Just look how many people were executed or transported to concentraion camps during protectorate for being in or cooperating with resistance and then tell me there was no resistance... It is true that Czech resistance was weak, not that good organised and didn't achieve some huge success but sayin there was no resistance is just a lie... - @Friday, June 3, 2011 1:53 PM

punipunipunisher
@sssummmak I wanted to write: in a supposedly occupied "protectorate" of his. But in the nearby Poland, for some comparison, the local chiefs of the SS and police would have no public names and faces, it was so dangerous (publicily they were using onoly their ranks and functions to fo example sign their editcs). Who they are, how they look, where they live - it was all top secret. Hitler was in Warsaw only once, days after the war (campaign), when a massive IED failed to kill him by chance. - @Friday, June 3, 2011 11:34 AM

punipunipunisher
@sssummmak Yes, they were Czech who were British agents who had to be airdropped. Because there was no resistance. This also why RH drove an open car with no bodyguards (in a supposedly "occupied" protectorate of his), and why the Czech civilians on the spot tried to stop the agents from escape after the hit. - @Friday, June 3, 2011 11:29 AM

Tomáš Pecák
@punipunipunisher Man nah those weren't british agents get your facts right, those were czechs trained in Britain, they served in Czech army before war broke out. They succeeded because of czech resistance, they were dropped in other location and czech resistance kept them hidden, without them nazi's would found them after the assasination resistance kept them hidden for more than month... Man really get your facts right, read something about that.... - @Friday, June 3, 2011 11:00 AM

punipunipunisher
@sssummmak British agents killed him, they were airdropped. - @Friday, June 3, 2011 4:40 AM

Tomáš Pecák
@Lokvinho Czechs did fell under communist propaganda but that wasn't main reason why we end up in eastern bloc.... Main reason was that Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill decided about the faith of Czechoslovakia even before end of WWII on conferation that was held in Yalta. We were left under influence of USSR, Churchill and Roosevelt were both at pretty bad shape and Stalin took advantige of this and made his demands. That was the main reason we became communist country, sad period of our history - @Thursday, June 2, 2011 11:44 PM

Tomáš Pecák
@punipunipunisher There was a Czech resistance... who do you think took out Heindrich? There was a resistance although it was supressed quite hard... - @Thursday, June 2, 2011 11:32 PM

punipunipunisher
@dirtyblondny Really? There was no "Czech Resistance". - @Saturday, April 23, 2011 3:03 PM

The director of this film has a contract with MIRAMAX studio, so he has to send a screenplay to USA. Miramax is connected with Walt Disney, so this screeplay was mooving between these film makers and the stole it. Really. There are many same characters in both of films. Like stutter pilot. - @Tuesday, March 22, 2011 10:16 PM

Hold ON!!!You people arguing about the czechs fall into the communists propaganda, have you even noticed, that it was the west countries, that has sold my country to hitler back then?well i would be pissed off too,and in bad days, people are looking for a way out, misfortunetly eastern way...most of czech people looked on Britain and France like on traitors, which(at least that i saved peace chamberlain, and Daladier fuck!) they were!
