Zombies rule the world, except for a small group of scientists and military personnel who reside in an underground bunker in Florida. The scientists are using the undead in gruesome experiments; much to the chagrin of the military. Finally the military finds that their men have been used in the scientists' experiments, and banish the scientists to the caves that house the Living Dead. Unfortunately, the zombies from above ground have made their way into the bunker.

I don’t want to criticize Joseph Pilato’s performance so I will just say he was miscast. He is not believable as a military leader or a villain. - @Saturday, June 30, 2018 1:19 PM

it’s also the only romero film that doesn’t wander all over. i believe it was written by a clever film student & romero just bought & put his name on it. tom savini did the best effects of his career, so did the cast. but the script is too good to be romero’s work. - @Saturday, June 30, 2018 6:03 AM

My personal favorite of Romero's dead trilogy. An underappreciated masterpiece. - @Saturday, January 14, 2017 11:08 PM

It's not as good as Dawn, but can still stand on its own and the ending is awesome. - @Saturday, January 7, 2017 4:51 AM

The only kind of zombie fan that doesn't love Return of the Living Dead is a typical hipster doofus that like shit like Max Brooks' books, or think Zombieland or Shaun of the Dead are among the best. Go appreciate zombie flicks with the balls to do something different and that pull it off successfully. - @Wednesday, December 7, 2016 2:43 AM

I have to disagree on the best ever zombie performance being Howard Sherman's Bub. It is actually David Emge's Flyboy in Dawn of the Dead. When he becomes all zombified in DotD that is the best zombie ever seen in a movie. - @Wednesday, September 14, 2016 12:11 PM
