Ahh, yes, 1989. That was the year The Abyss came out and almost every studio out there wanted to rush their own knockoff into theatres before it dropped. It's funny, there were four big Hollywood "GREAT IDEA!" trends that occured in my childhood. First, we had Underwater Science Fiction. (Leviathan, DS6, Abyss). Then we had Dinosaurs (Carnosaur, Jurassic Park, many other low budget schlock), then we had volcanoes (Volcano, Dante's Peak, others), then we had space disaster movies, (Armageddon, Deep Impact, The TV movie "Meteor" and other low budget copy cats.) This is an okay undersea monster type flick. The story seems plausible, the acting is good, and the interior sets look realistic. The exterior equipment like minisubs, etc., however, have a "smallish" look to them like they used undersized models. The sea monster, which we only begin to see an hour and eight minutes into this hour and forty minute long flick, is just shown in brief flashes and, imo, not shown enough. The ending looks almost exactly like the one in _Leviathan_ which I think was a better film overall. Several noticeably technical flaws in the film such as the surviving couple must decompress before they can enter a minisub and rise to the ocean's surface after having spent six months at a depth of several miles. The decompression is accomplished in only a few hours when, in reality, it would require several *days* in a decompression chamber. - @Sunday, July 2, 2017 7:26 AM
