*A Lovecraft-Enthusiast's Summary* While it was by no means a perfect film and my perspective is an unavoidably subjective one subject to deep revelry in most horror movies irrespective of quality and forgiving to the point of broad, enthusiastic acceptance of that which the critic abhors;I REALLY enjoyed this one. It is a slow build, most certainly, designed to build suspense but I liked that and didn't feel the acting was too bad. If you enjoy the Del Toran themes of ancient, subterranean things and the Lovecraftian stories like "Pickman's Model" and especially one from his Dream Cycle's "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath". The concept for The Marrow's society, I should think, draws a great deal of inspiration from Lovecraftian Ghouls in Richard Upton Pickman. Would I recommend this for those desensitized to horror through excess consumption who seek the most terrifying experience yet? No. If you like the themes however, and enjoy lovecraft, I'd say this is well worth it :D - @Friday, July 6, 2018 4:12 AM

I think the plot was very good and authentic and it needed lots of imagination. This is hands down one of the worst films I've ever seen. I'm not trying to exaggerate, I really mean that. At least 75% of the film is the filmmaker Adam Green masturbating to his own movies, and having friends talk about how big of fans they are of him. It's embarrassing and difficult to watch, for everyone involved. There is more pathetic dialogue than there are genuine scenes relating to the story line. There are ZERO scares, and I mean NONE. There are maybe 2-3 jump scenes, which are cheap by default, but fail at even that. The "Monsters" are poorly done and are only seen for maybe 2-3 minutes of the entire film, seen near the very end. I gave this a chance after reading some good reviews, but if you're looking for an honest horror movie, or even something you can laugh at, this is not for you. This is garbage, plain and simple. The acting is so profoundly bad, the script so pathetic and self-serving, the film so meager visually, that I truly consider this one of the biggest wastes of time I have ever sat through. It did leave it a bit open ended, maybe they will do a follow up, but I highly doubt it.
