The story revolves around the planet Shada, on which the Time Lords have constructed a high security prison for some of the Universe's most dangerous criminals. Skagra, a flawed genius from the planet Dronoid, wishes to create a "Universal Mind" in which all the pooled knowledge of the universe's greatest criminals would be placed at his disposal and with which he intends to take control of the Universe. Skagra wants to go to Shada to extract the knowledge of the criminals who have been imprisoned there. Unfortunately for Skagra, knowledge of the location of Shada has been deliberately hidden by the Time Lords, but Skagra discovers that there is a Time Lord living on Earth in the twentieth century who may hold the key to its location. This Time Lord is masquerading as a professor at St. Cedd's College, Cambridge and calling himself Professor Chronotis. Sensing danger, Chronotis calls for the assistance of his old friend and protégé, the Doctor. The story climaxes in a battle for ...

Shada is one of the best Tom Baker storys and one of three written by Douglas Adams. It is a shame that it was never finished after the strike and that JNT gave us The Leisure Hive and the rest of season 18 instead. This new version is so much easier to follow than the linking narration by Tom Baker. His narration was a condensed version of the screenplay, omitting many small details. The animation is somewhat “crude,” but this helps retain that vintage late-70s feel. What hasn't been made clear in the advertising, which is a shame, is that they have actually completed filming all the missing live action model sequences for the story using an original series model maker and 1970's film cameras. They also brought in the original score composer from the period who is very elderly now, and created a new score to complete the soundtrack. There are also live action sequences featuring K9 battling an original refurbished Krarg costume. So that is hugely exciting. This edition is the closest we will now ever come to seeing the story completed. My only hope would be to one day improve the sophistication of the animation. - @Sunday, November 26, 2017 8:47 AM

...if nothing else, Christopher Neame here gives a MUCH better reading of the line "Shaaaadaaaa..." than he did in Ian Levine's version -- MUCH more subtle, in-character for Skagra, and less hammy -- so, that's DEFINITELY a good sign for the voice acting. :-) - @Friday, November 24, 2017 11:18 PM
