In 1938, Walter Neff, an experienced salesman of the Pacific All Risk Insurance Co., meets the seductive wife of one of his clients, Phyllis Dietrichson, and they have an affair. Phyllis proposes to kill her husband to receive the proceeds of an accident insurance policy and Walter devises a scheme to receive twice the amount based on a double indemnity clause. When Mr. Dietrichson is found dead on a train track, the police accept the determination of accidental death. However, the insurance analyst and Walter's best friend Barton Keyes does not buy the story and suspects that Phyllis has murdered her husband with the help of another man.

Films like Out of the Past, Scarlet Street and Criss Cross are every bit as Noir as DI... if not more so. Double Indemnity is great but overhyped by people like yourself. - @Tuesday, August 28, 2018 10:57 PM

Anthony Smith
One of the best of the film noirs along The Maltese Falcon, The almost remake of this The Postman Always Rings Twice, Act of Violence, and Touch of Evil. For my money, Fred MacMurrAy, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson steal the show. - @Friday, February 16, 2018 8:58 PM

Jack Grattan
Chandler and Wilder doing Cain. Add John Seitz' gloomy photography, and you're drinking the hard stuff, Bub. - @Sunday, January 11, 2015 3:06 AM

Josh does write some cool/uncompromising commentary. I think he's the best, uh... actual "speaker" in trailers from hell, eheh!  - @Saturday, January 18, 2014 6:52 PM
