Two faiths, two empires, two rulers - colliding in 1588. Papist Spain wants to bring down the heretic Elizabeth. Philip is building an armada but needs a rationale to attack. With covert intrigue, Spain sets a trap for the Queen and her principal secretary, Walsingham, using as a pawn Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart, who's under house arrest in the North. The trap springs, and the armada sets sail, to rendezvous with French ground forces and to attack. During these months, the Virgin Queen falls in love with Walter Raleigh, keeping him close to court and away from the sea and America. Is treachery or heroism at his heart? Does loneliness await her passionate majesty?

Films like this appease the masses and are aimed to be crowd pleasers, but people who actually read nonfiction history books know better. Still, it's enjoyable as a movie but some parts are unbearable because of the inaccuracies. What makes me laugh at people who oppose the latter statement that English history is infused with cowardice, handling, and dishonorable practice reveals itself quite blatantly in its murdering of royalty since the 1300's, possibly even earlier if I remember correctly. But really, look at the examples: Edward II, Richard II, George Duke of Clarence, Richard III, Edward Stafford 3rd Duke of Buckingham, Lady Margaret Pole, Mary Queen of Scots, and lastly Charles I. All people with substantial Plantagenet blood unlike the House of Tudor with its remote and narrow claim to the English throne. All of them were killed by conspiracies to replace them, and the latter two by the Tudors and upcoming politicians in one way or another because there were survivors of the last royal house whose blood was so strong and their relations so direct in the family tree that they could've been monarchs, displacing Henry VIII and his descendants. He even needed his wife Elizabeth of York to make his rule more legitimate since all of Europe already were both skeptical of him and looked down on him for their knowledge of the English royal houses. Know your history before you even try and argue. Pick up a book; Wikipedia won't tell you everything. Don't always believe what people tell you, they're usually biased. Especially if they keep talking about how the Tudors were "awesome." They were one of the least respected houses in Europe for good reason, but at least despite this, there were a few members of that house who did the best they could. Lady Jane Grey, Elizabeth I. Books by David Starkey, Alison Weir, Chris Skidmore, John Guy, and Antonia Fraser are good starts. - @Friday, July 20, 2018 3:32 AM

The war between England and Spain is discussed by Professor Walter J. Veith in this lecture. It's in time stamp 29:00 213B - Battle of the Bibles / Total Onslaught - Walter Veith https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNv-zzpIwBs&index=13&list=PL95B1BB23B7A3C795 Our battle is not against flesh and blood. Spiritual forces would wish to rob man of the only source of inspiration outlining the road to salvation. In the Battle of the Bibles hard evidence is provided for how the enemy has worked behind the scenes to create the stage for the final attack on the Word of God itself. The history and affiliations of those who have dared to reshape God's Word to suit their occult philosophy is clearly exposed. - @Saturday, February 17, 2018 7:24 PM

England was lucky, if Spain did managed to land some troups, England would certainly conquered, since Spain had the best equiped and trained armies during the XVI and XVII Century, Spain at this time won countless times against peoples from all the corners of the world, since kicked the ass of the French, the Ottomans and Dutch time and time again. - @Sunday, January 28, 2018 8:06 PM
