I think this was a good slasher film, building up atmosphere, tension, and the uneasy feeling that you're being watched. Yes, the killer lacks motivation, but he has something better: brutal effectiveness. Yes, we don't have deaths one after another, but that is used to build connection and plot. The lighting and music are downright eerie and atmospheric, playing on the universal fear of bad things hidden in the dark. The invention and commonness of the cell phone killed the horror premise forever and CGI killed the mystery and fascination of blood, guts, zombies and monsters.
