In 1945, the Marines attack twelve thousand Japaneses protecting the twenty square kilometers of the sacred Iwo Jima island in a very violent battle. When they reach the Mount Suribachi and six Marines raise their flag on the top, the picture becomes a symbol in a post Great Depression America. The government brings the three survivors to America to raise funds for war, bringing hope to desolate people, and making the three men heroes of the war. However, the traumatized trio has difficulty dealing with the image built by their superiors, sharing the heroism with their mates.

Lol all these people hate'n on America because we bailed out Europe from Hitler. Really says a lot about theses peoples credibility of knowledge, if you ask me a bunch of pussies that are mad they're ancestors lost the 2nd world war, key board warriors probably from a country that we SQUISHED, unless your Vietnamese or Russian You country doesn't have anything on America for the 20th century. China poses a credible threat yet to come or be made public and Isis and North Korea are excuses for Lockheed Martin to increase its budget and production in my opinion. Times have changed. - @Friday, June 30, 2017 9:09 AM

In my view, Letters from Iwo Jima shows Hopelessness, determination, honor, cruelty of war and humanity whereas Flags of out fathers shows more of money, fame, lies, stress and guilt. - @Tuesday, January 19, 2016 2:38 AM

People were getting war weary towards the end that is a fact. I really think people don't have a grip on how it was a complete miracle that we were able to end it. - @Sunday, September 20, 2015 3:11 AM

I asked my great aunt how she dealt with WW2, she said she didn't know. It hit me, they had no idea. All you had were News Paper's, radio's, and movie theater's. Her husband Wayne Cardin was in the army, he got this grin on his face and said we parachuted in behind enemy lines in France. For him it was the proudest moment in his life. On, the other end of the spectrum you had my grandfather's brother who was a Marine in the Pacific and he just didn't want to think about it, and he was treated like complete crap when he returned home when looking for help from religious institutions in California. They told him to go back to where he came from, so it really bugs me that you see all these movies that kind of glorify WW2. It was different for everyone. This movie really captures that. - @Sunday, September 20, 2015 3:03 AM

I am amazed cool movie! I'm from Belarus, but the film is really cool! It is not just a film about Stalingrad shot Russian Directors "Fedora Bondarchuk." Can someone heard about it. There's nothing similar with at least a portion of the truth-that there really was! Yes and I would also like to add. As I said the movie is really cool, I assumed I'd see another heroism of American soldiers but no I was wrong. The story of the flag is similar to the story over the Reichstag. For those who first hoisted him their names when nobody do not know. - @Monday, March 2, 2015 11:46 PM

These men are not heroes simply because they raised a flag pole, they are heroes because they answered the call of duty and traveled across a sea to fight tyranny and defend freedom. We should remember these men for the sacrifices they made and never pretend that we can comprehend the horrors they beheld. Never joke about war or how "cool" or "fun" it is, "war is delightful to those that have no experience of it".  - @Thursday, May 15, 2014 6:20 AM

Yes, the film is very good. Like the Letters from Iwo Jima, that shows it from the japanese perspective. Eastwood is truley one of the last good directors in Hollywood. We´re not truly more civilized today. Drone Executions of maybe Terrorists without evidences. "Collateral Damages" what means nothing but coldblood killing of muslim families. But the Media tells you all these killed were terrorists. Wake up. - @Sunday, October 20, 2013 5:28 AM

That's true even in war its important to show some respect for your enemy. Respect for what your father did in Europe btw (: ! Sadly the Germans in ww2 did horrible things to my family and they lost and suffered alot , but we thankfully recovered from that thanks too the marshall aid and we forgave the Germans for what they did and punched those who were to blame and not all Nazi's were bad. - @Monday, April 22, 2013 7:16 PM

Roland Groot
Yeah you're right it were also an enemy of mine country but still I also respect them , just because how smart there tactics were. Even General Smith spended a entire day finding him so he could burry him with respect. - @Monday, April 22, 2013 6:55 PM

General Kuribayashi is getting burried at the end , he gave Saigo the order to do that. But today they don't really know what happend with him and they say he was burried near a tree. ( sorry for my English p: ) - @Monday, April 22, 2013 6:39 PM
