After the death of her husband, a mother takes her kids off to live with their grandparents in a huge, decrepit old mansion. The book was much better than both movies made. They need to remake it and leave the story as it was really told. - @Wednesday, June 20, 2018 4:25 AM

This would have been a much better movie had the studio left it alone. Instead, they butchered it so that it could receive a PG-13 rating from the MPAA. It was shot as an R-Rated film, included nudity, incest, and slightly more violence than the theatrical cut. The ending was also different; in fact, there were three endings in total and the one where the mother is killed was filmed by another director because the studio insisted that the mother pay for her crimes. Director and screenwriter Jeffrey Bloom refused to have any part of the new ending, he was fed up with all the studio's interfering with the production and editing. It was the last feature film he ever directed. I don' t know if the deleted scenes still exist, but I hope the original director's cut will be released on DVD. - @Tuesday, November 15, 2016 4:53 AM

God, what this movie could have been. The only things they got right were the house and the casting of Louise Fletcher as the grandmother. Hopefully the rumoured remake will shit all over this piece of dreck. - @Sunday, July 14, 2013 9:49 AM

For all of you that didn't know, the movie was originally directed by Wes Craven and because of his high content of incest themes, they decided to get another director instead. Ironic how they have a problem with incest, yet that was the entire point of the book. - @Saturday, June 1, 2013 9:47 PM

(inhales) It's about four siblings who are abandoned by their mother to live with their grandmother. The children are kept in the attic to live in secret (because of their dying grandfather). While in the attic, the two eldest children, experience puberty and due to their isolation, they become attracted to one another. (exhales) - @Saturday, November 24, 2012 3:57 AM
