In the not-too-distant future, a less-than-perfect man wants to travel to the stars. Society has categorized Vincent Freeman as less than suitable given his genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. To move ahead, he assumes the identity of Jerome Morrow, a perfect genetic specimen who is a paraplegic as a result of a car accident. With professional advice, Vincent learns to deceive DNA and urine sample testing. Just when he is finally scheduled for a space mission, his program director is killed and the police begin an investigation, jeopardizing his secret.

Part of Gattaca was filmed at the university I went to. They filmed it while I was there. The apartment building with the pointed roof where the guy in the wheelchair lived is the CLA (Classroom, Laboratory, and Administration) Building at Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona California. The building was newly constructed at the time and I don't think was populated yet. The students overwhelmingly hated the design of the building when it was new. the music of the movie and message makes me well up when i watch this- it was intentionality theatrical, overstating everything to make its point unmissable. it should have looked ridiculous but never did: the constant gene id refs and the rockets shooting off every ten minutes- (space shuttle/rockets are all but decommissioned today due to cost and to give stations provisions or send up the odd satellite would be 2-3 a year but they were sending a dozon a day- more than any planets we have)- it reminisced of earliest bw sci-fi that had rocket everything- no one played with there phone or ipad either so this is true retro future tech-flash gordan-sci-fi. - @Sunday, June 5, 2016 1:19 AM
