Genres & Description

Action Crime Thriller

7.5 / 10

A vicious London gangster, Jack Carter, travels to Newcastle for his brother's funeral. He begins to suspect that his brother's death was not an accident and sets out to follow a complex trail of lies, deceit, cover-ups and backhanders through Newcastle's underworld, leading, he hopes, to the man who ordered his brother killed. Because of his ruthlessness, Carter exhibits all the unstopability of the android in Terminator, or Walker in Point Blank, and he and the other characters in the film are prone to sudden, brutal acts of violence.

Graham Black.Muscles don't make you hard,The Krays and the Richardson's didn't have huge physiques and have you heard of mad Frankie Fraser a small vicious gangland enforcer who was one of the most feared gangsters in then1960s underworld? Physique means nothing. - @Wednesday, July 4, 2018 2:07 AM

2000's version with Stalone was way better. Caine is the bad guy there btw haha ;) - @Monday, June 25, 2018 3:46 AM

I love this film, and Caine's performance in it. However, there are aspects that are not very credible. Caine may have had an icy cold stare, but he didn't have the physique to be a vicious London gangster's enforcer. I don't find it believable that he's as hard as nails. Also, Caine has a London accent. He's supposed to be a Geordie who's been away from NewCastle for about 8 years. If you know any Geordies, you will know the idea that they could lose their accent is totally unbelievable. There's also the fact that there are apparently only two kingpins in town who could have possibly been involved in his brother's death: Brumby and Kinnear. The book is set in Scunthorpe which makes this much more believable, but NewCastle is a much bigger place and is renowned for having a lot of hard cases. Still, it's a truly great and unique film. - @Saturday, June 16, 2018 9:05 AM

I swear Michael Caine's performance here had an influence on the character McCall for the show The Equalizer.  Both are bad asses with particular sets of skills you do not want to screw with. - @Thursday, June 30, 2016 6:31 PM

I can now see the influence for The Amazing Spiderman 2 trailer. Although, Get Carter is excused for both being made in 1971 and being fucking Jean Claude Van Dammetastic! - @Friday, October 9, 2015 12:36 AM

Great film this, one of my favourites and I bought this DVD in 2001.  You can almost smell the Old Spice aftershave on the actors. - @Sunday, February 15, 2015 9:18 AM
