I see some of the same actors from the movie Gettysburg.I wonder if both movies are somehow in the same series - @Wednesday, December 2, 2015 6:51 AM

This is an amazing trailer, for a movie somewhere between decent and good.  There were just so many speeches, and the deification of Jackson was a bit off-putting as well.  I would have liked to have seen The Last Full Measure (the novel of which I liked better than this one), but Turner took such a bath on this movie that it was never likely to be made (by now it would require new actors of course).  I watch Gettysburg every few months, and the war continues to fascinate me and always will. - @Saturday, April 4, 2015 1:19 PM

Not to celebrate the death of anybody, as they were all men of their times, but thank heavens Jackson fell. He had a huge impact on the war. - @Tuesday, September 2, 2014 12:45 AM

Unfortunately, the south had far superior generals. Everyone remembers Robert E Lee but if you study the history of the Civil War, Stonewall Jackson was far and away the better general. Lee disagreed with him on a number of occasions that ultimately led to union victory. Had Stonewall Jackson survived the war, it may have been prolonged at the very least. Una de las puestas en escena mas dramatica y fidedigna de la guerra de cesesion nortemericana. Junto a la Batalla de Gettysburg es referencia obligada a la hora de profundizar en el tema. Veanla!!! - @Friday, August 1, 2014 2:52 AM

I agree. It became abolishing slavery later. However, in the beginning, it was about the North saving the country and South trying to make a country. - @Tuesday, November 5, 2013 7:33 AM

It wasn't a war fought over slavery, but rather the role of the federal government. Slavery was and is a terrible thing, but the northerners weren't fighting to free the slaves, they fought to keep the Union. The southerners werent fighting to keep slavery, they fought to break away from a Federal government that was becoming more powerful than their state's government which they felt was wrong. - @Thursday, October 10, 2013 4:51 PM

I really hope he can, Ted Turner ruined what could have been a great trilogy, he created so much bad blood during filming that Maxwell refused to work with him again, Turner basically wanted a propaganda movie about the confederacy and wanted to stray even further from Shaara's work - @Wednesday, August 14, 2013 8:24 PM

Absolutely loved the movie Gettysburg and I look forward to watching this one. Both of the books are like my fave books of all time and you should read them first! - @Wednesday, May 8, 2013 9:51 PM

FireEyedMaidOfWar
This movie is as well made as its predecessor Gettysburg, with its decent battle scenes and the actors bringing the past and its characters pretty much back to life; and it reaches almost the level of epic poems or tragic plays, being the eulogy of Stonewall Jackson, whose untimely dead may have caused the South to lose to war; and of course in it the Southerners are showed as brave and pious folks defending their homeland against the treacherous banking lackeys from the North. - @Sunday, May 5, 2013 5:23 AM

FireEyedMaidOfWar
It is strange how little the true purposes and consequences of this war for in it the usurping tyrant Lincoln did destroy the old United States of America and replaced it with the new United State of America, whose centralized government was easily corrupted by the banks and turned into the local and global enforcer of their tyranny; though the private ownership of firearms is still a true sword of Damocles to it and so it does now finally move to complete what it had started it 1861 for good. - @Sunday, May 5, 2013 1:55 AM

If i take a look at my history book that strangely always the good guys win. So I am a bit sceptical about if the north was really good. You know like in the first war of independence the "good" guys won vs the british and in another independence war the oppressor won and still those seem to be the good guys..... the winner always is the good one somehow - @Saturday, March 16, 2013 9:58 PM

fighting for independence? that was a RUSE. america is now a corporate country, the only country in the world of its kind. america was established because rich folk didnt like tax's, so they thought hell, we'll just take it and make it ours. and set the tax's lower, but make the money worth less. if you think the rebellion, or the civil war we're about independence, your a fool. - @Friday, December 28, 2012 11:02 AM

Because the South fired on Ft. Sumpter, that's why three-quarters of a million died. And if you were a slave, would you like to know that someday the institution was going to be phased out? I love goading you guys. Professors and teachers--scum of the earth. As I recall, Lee ran West Point and after the war became a college president. Old Stonewall taught school as well. No wonder the south lost. - @Wednesday, December 5, 2012 12:13 AM

What makes you think I'm a Yankee? Please specify the "old ways of the Constitution." What the Hell is that? And why was Lincoln a terrible man--I mean, be specific. Did he trade slaves, did he beat people, did he lose? The only problem with the lovers of the Lost Cause is that they didn't have what it takes and that still after a century and a half pisses them off. It's all about testosterone--or the lack thereof. - @Tuesday, December 4, 2012 11:26 PM

Talk about a bad cause!! You're ignorant and stupid. You need a history lesson. Don't you know the winners write history?? I'll spoon feed you this. The south fought to preserve the old ways of the constitution. They had, as well, much difference in economic things to. Lincoln was a terrible man who receives far to much credit. It's like rewarding a terrorist. You get it now or did I use too big-a words for you, ignorant uncaring Yankee - @Friday, November 30, 2012 12:54 AM

It was over decentralized Gov't, more time for a more amicable abolition of slavery. Slavery was already on it's way out, the confederate constitution which was a near carbon copy of the US', also had written in provisions for a phase out. Every other country in Europe phased out slavery over a period of time, why did we have to kill three-quarters of a million people to do it? You also forget that poor whites had to compete with slave labor, it hurt them about as much as a typical slave. - @Saturday, November 17, 2012 5:54 PM

Chris Brown
p.s. you studied the civil war in college; I taught it. - @Wednesday, November 7, 2012 10:38 PM

What was it fought over, "states' rats?" Are you going to tell me that one of those "rats" wasn't the "rat" to own slaves? Are you prepared to say that southerners had a "rat" to hold men in bondage and fight anyone who said they couldn't? I can't wait to hear someone in the 21st century explain why the Old South couldn't pick its own cotton. - @Wednesday, November 7, 2012 10:35 PM
