Freshman university student Josh Wheaton attends a philosophy class, where the uncompromising Professor Radisson requires all students to submit a signed statement that the "God is dead" and never existed. When Josh refuses due to his own Christian beliefs, the Professor challenges him to defend his position that his god, Yahweh, is real, leading to a series of confrontational presentations between himself and the professor, with the class as jury. Josh's plans to go to law school depend on not failing this class. Josh's girlfriend urges him not to throw away his future with this pointless act of defiance. At the same time, Pastor Dave and African missionary Jude attempt to leave town on a trip, but are hindered by comical accidents. Student Ayisha is at odds with her father's conservative religious principles. Businessman Mark acts cynically towards his mentally ill mother, while his journalist girlfriend receives bad news from a doctor.

This was a little cheesy but I really enjoyed the film. The acting was decent and it was an uplifting story. The debate scenes presented a lot of interesting, thought provoking arguments and sources for both sides. I’ll definitely be checking out the sequels. Yes it’s obviously tilted more towards the Christian side but this is made very obvious and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. The inner compunction that pervades the belief that Jesus must somehow be God is the same as Lucifer's own fall in desiring to be 'like the Most High'; namely in wanting to have God's own preeminence for himself. The notion that God could become a tiny single cell of a baby inside of a human womb, then grow for 9 1/2 months, then be born, then grow as a human boy, mature into a 'man', then die on a cross, killed by mankind, is ludicrous to consider if you try and righteously fathom the realities of just who God actually is in comparison to who man is, and how impossible it is for God to die, much less for mankind to somehow 'kill' Him. Balak got his testimony from God through Balaam that God is not a man, neither the son of man.. and in this statement, God was clearly also proclaiming that He would never become a man, nor the son of man, which Jesus became both. And in the song of Moses, we have a proclamation of God's words being that He lives for ever.. and this being FAR before Jesus' death.. so God could not somehow ever die as Jesus did. The notions of wanting to believe that the eternally blessed God became the lowest of the low.. the servant of all mankind.. died a worse death than all mankind ever.. and who was even killed by mankind that He gave life to.. is in some ways worse than what even Lucifer sought.. believing that God humbled Himself beneath you in your human race, and that you, as a race, had enough power over God that you killed Him. I think it's funny how people think that one person in the whole movie represents a whole group. That the teacher in the movie is an atheist who hates God does not immediately imply that all atheists hate God. That the student is feeling opressed and offended by the teacher does not mean all Christians are that way... It is a damn movie..
