Clive Barker's feature directing debut graphically depicts the tale of a man and wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature - the man's half-brother, who is also the woman's former lover - hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of S&M demons, the Cenobites, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He soon forces his former mistress to bring him his necessary human sacrifices to complete his body... but the Cenobites won't be happy about this.

Holy shit, in our first house that kid next door to us that threw the metal darts at my face and stuck one inside of my neck, also used to cast his fishing pole at me trying to snag me with the hook. He actually hooked me a few different times on my body, I think he also snagged my face with a fishing hook. I remember people taking fishing hooks out of me, this wasn't a one day event, it happened a number of times on different days, I was really young around 2-3 years old, maybe 3 in a half. I think part of this movie is about the metal darts thrown at my face and into me and the fishing hooks that kid snagged into my skin with his fishing pole. I just watched the 1st 2 movies. I'm kinda disappointed with them. Everyone says they're awesome. They're ok. I guess the hooks make my skin crawl, but really.. My opinion is that it wasn't as horrific as i think it should be. Definitely not saying it isn't! I can see kids being terrified of skinless bloodied up humans, crawling & walking around. To me though, & at my age. For what it was in the late 80s, GREAT effects! For the story though, it was sorta slow for me. I can see kids that grew/grow up with this movie loving it! I'm a Friday the 13th, kind of guy. Jason was my guy, growing up. So i'm that genre of horror. It's a love it or hate it kind of movie. I'm in between. It isn't something i'll be quick to watch again. I probably will someday, but not quick. I'd to see an Unholy Priest w/ Cenobites vs. Freddy. That'd be fucking awesome! Freddy doing a nightmare stalking, & his victim summons the Cenobites. That would be some great stuff to watch! If deep psychological horror is want you want, stay away from this one. This one's horror comes solely from its imagery. It's not just gore, though there is a lot of it in the movie, but most of it comes from the brilliant designs that Clive Barker wrote in his novel. The character motivations aren't too complex, and the movie is pretty average at best. But it's thick atmosphere, imagery and plot just make the whole thing like a fascinating nightmare.
