I remember the first time I saw this movie. It had just came out on VHS & my mom rented it *just* for me because I begged her to see it in theaters but we waited too long. She also had a big bag full of Taco Bell. The new episode of Bug Juice was on so I was running back & forth between commercials to watch the movie lol. I was 9 years old so that was a big deal for me. Though I was a horror movie junkie, certain parts actually creeped me a bit. All the people saying that the 1959 version wasn't scary have to remember that in that time, it probably was. People weren't used to having blood and gore, jumpscares, and creepy disturbing images on the big screen like horror movies today have. The original is corny because it was made by low budget mogul William Castle and this one is scarier overall but still has some funny parts. I'm kind of torn between the two myself but I think it's a better remake than 13 ghosts or the Wicker Man. Geoffrey Rush does a pretty good job filling Vincent Price's shoes and makes it worth at least one viewing even if you prefer the older one. I can't say I loved this film, the original is leagues better, but this trailer has been one of my favorites since my childhood. Image being 10 year old, into classic horror, and seeing this. I still remember the contest and everything. It blew my mind. This is a great reconnect with that feeling.
