As a snob who knows everything there is to know about cinema EVER, I must inform you this is not a Kaiju movie but tokusatsu film which kaiju is a subgenre of. - @Thursday, April 11, 2013 7:21 PM

This was made to be serious. It was meant to be Hong Kong studio Shaw Brothers' answer to Japanese TV superheroes of the era that were also popular there like Ultraman and Masked Rider. - @Tuesday, March 5, 2013 4:30 AM

It's a Kaiju (Giant monster) movie like Godzilla or Ultraman. It was (and still kind of is) a very popular genre in Japan and this was a copy/ripoff of Ultraman (which was HUGE at the time). This movie was not a comedy, It was actually kind of scary when I saw it (I was like 5 years old). Lol, I mean, he cut off the bad guy's hands. That was hardcore for the early 80s. We see them a funny now, cause the English dubbing was usually really bad. - @Thursday, December 20, 2012 6:21 AM

Was this actually supposed to be serious when it was created? or was it always meant to be a joke of a movie? - @Friday, December 7, 2012 1:02 AM

@GrimAtomic Very interesting point! Glad you brought it up. If I got my dates right, this came out about 10 years after the original Ultraman series. It's noted as being China's answer to Japan's Ultraman. This fact was obvious to me even back when I was 12. As true with most imitations or copies, no matter how good, they rarely outmatch the original. But in some cases that doesn't matter. I never got to see this as a kid, but I always remembered Inframan and consider it a CLASSIC. Peeese! - @Sunday, June 19, 2011 6:41 PM
