In an innocent heartland city, five are shot dead by an expert sniper. The police quickly identify and arrest the culprit, and build a slam-dunk case. But instead of confessing, the accused man writes the words, "Get Jack Reacher." Reacher himself sees the news report and turns up in the city. The defense is immensely relieved, but Reacher has come to bury the guy. Shocked at the accused's request, Reacher sets out to confirm for himself the absolute certainty of the man's guilt, but comes up with more than he bargained for.

You've clearly never read the original books. Reacher's character is completely based around his height, weight and intelligence. Any other actor can play a 'smart witty Reacher' because that's exactly what they do - ACT! Tom isn't a smart guy just because he plays a smart guy, you're just backing him up because you like the 'action-man' type guy. Fair enough. My point was that it looks like Christopher McQuarrie did not even read the book. And from reviewing some of the upcoming films by McQuarrie it appears that he has just thrown in an actor that he has alot of interest in rather than matching some of the basics. I agree completely. Obviously they wanted to expose the film as an adaption of the book calling it "Jack Reacher" instead of "One Shot". Cruise is just pushing the boat out too far though. maybe, but it could be that with so much more potential for future films and a BIG paycheck from them, would you say otherwise? I have my doubts as well, but google "lee child wordandfilm" and you'll find an article from Lee Child talking about the movie, the script, and Cruise as Reacher. He's pretty enthusiastic about it, and it helps me get a little more excited about the movie. I always imagined someone like Alexander Skarsgård would have been a good fit for the role. At least he is the same height. Tom Cruise would have to stand on a milk crate and even then he'd be lucky to get near 6ft.
