Everyone is going on about how brilliant Streep was. Of course, she is brilliant, but she is fallible just like the rest of them. The one thing that really grated with me was the iconic look of superiority - cold dark eyes, thinned cheeks and slightly pursed lips. This worked to great effect in the devil wears prada and Doubt, but here it clashes with the delightfully flowery personality of Child. The final scene is a perfect example - the few seconds where she's opening the envelope - cold, surly, arrogant, then bang - the polar opposite of joy and glee! I reckon the director was scarred of her since there are so many examples of this throughout the film. It is a typical Streep look, and I'd imagine it wouldn't be easy to subdue. I've watched this movie so many times and still am now that its on netflix and I never even recognized what was being said at that part.
