This movie was so weird, and just bad, but somewhat slightly entertaining. I also think it sent a message out, it probably, more than likely did not intend to.. First we see the tensions between blacks and Koreans, as it was back then... Because you had a lot of hood rat thug assholes stealing, and just causing trouble.. This was such a huge problem, that many shop owners were on edge, especially Koreans.. This is shown when Korean lady shop owner kills a girl she thought was trying to steal... As usual, blacks in the hood typically don't know how to behave calmly, and cool, and instead get emotional and loud, which escalates the situation and usually ends in someone dead, or getting locked up. Then the whole Rodney King thing is going on.. Yes some cops are dicks, and corrupt, and have no kind of respect for the constitution... Like many politicians, and even voters, who continue to vote for more government, and don't realize that the police dept is apart of government, the more of it you have, the more of them you see in your face.. Especially the bad ones, mostly the bad ones. So a bunch of emotional savages start burning, looting, and attacking people, and destroys their neighborhood. I like the part where the Burger King guy is basically telling the kids, that BK will not come back, if they trash it.. Which is true, many businesses did not come back, and didn't want to, it's a huge waste.. This doesn't hurt the business, or "whitey" as those morons believe, it hurts the people living in the area, and this is part of the economic issue within the black districts. Back to the cops really quick.. Yes some cops are rough, and excessive, but need to be, when they have to work in violent ass areas, this is an even bigger issue today. Finally Halle Berry (she is still looking beautiful), and kids. The house always seemed as well as her, quite hectic, a little crazy even with all the kids. Older bro seemed to have a good head on his shoulders, until he began falling for the beastie chick, who was into the Ed209 thuggish adopted bro, who also became a bad influence on the other kids, which is part of what continues the cycle of violence, and depravity in these communities. It was interesting to me, because the movie basically showed why being a single mother is not ideal, and not something that should be celebrated. As I mentioned earlier, the house felt a bit on the brink of out of control. I actually even felt annoyed, and nervous by the mother's emotions, the crazy stuff going on, but when Daniel Craig's character came into the home, when he had to help her, and when he was watching the kids, I felt calm.. Basically yes a man, a FATHER is very important. Though he clearly had flaws (who doesn't?) he seemed like a good man, and the kids seemed more obedient with him, and he seemed to bring a lot of much needed calm to Halle Berry's character, especially, when she finds the other kid dead.
