Dino, the charming and lecherous Las Vegas singer, stops for gas on his way to Hollywood in Climax, Nevada. The oily gas station attendant is Barney Millsap, a would-be lyricist who writes pop songs with Orville Spooner, the local piano teacher. By disabling Dino's car, Barney contrives a scheme to have Dino sing one of their songs on an upcoming TV special. To entertain Dino, Barney contacts the village tart, Polly, employing her to pretend to be Orville's wife, Zelda, for a night. She doesn't like Dino, but does love being Orville's surrogate wife. Dino goes to a bar, where he meets the real Zelda, and they spend the night together while Polly spends it with Orville.

Looks awesome. Looks like a parody of Marylin movies that Dean has agreed to be part of. - @Saturday, February 20, 2016 8:20 AM

Problem-plagued from the beginning. Jack Lemmon and Peter Sellers were supposed to be in it. Kim badly injured her back. - @Saturday, March 14, 2015 12:11 AM

Oh that's great! LMAO! :) I loved The Fortune Cookie... the precursor to The Odd Couple! - @Thursday, October 31, 2013 7:10 PM

I believe that Billy Wilder originally had cast Peter Sellers in the Ray Walston role and Sellers had a heart attack or another serious health issue that prevented him from doing the movie. Audiences failed to respond to the film and Kim Novak then made the Moll Flanders film, which didn't do well, and the Lylah Clare film with Robert Aldrich, which tanked. Her career never recovered from these misfires. Wilder regained his footing with The Fortune Cookie, for which Matthau won an Oscar. - @Wednesday, October 30, 2013 2:54 PM

@soapbxprod Gina Lollabrigida played Kim Novak's part in the original Italian version of "Kiss Me, Stupid" entitled "Wife for a Night." I've never seen it. Novak was really good in this, as was Jack Lemmon's wife Felicia Farr. Walston's a fine actor but the role cried for a real leading man like Sellers or Wilder's favorite Jack Lemmon. You know, when Ernie Kovacs died, Walter Matthau inherited his movie career as Lemmon's onscreen partner. - @Saturday, January 28, 2012 3:33 PM

@soapbxprod A pre-Code film I just can't get over is "Night Nurse" (1931), a Barbara Stanwyck vehicle in which Clark Gable plays a vicious chauffeur gradually starving two adorable little girls to death after having run over their sister with his car and killed her. You have to see that one to believe it. Gable was so powerful in that role, originally intended for Cagney until "The Public Enemy" made him too big a name for a supporting part, that I cannot believe Warner Bros. let MGM take him. - @Saturday, January 28, 2012 3:26 PM

Sellers had just released "Dr. Strangelove," "The Pink Panther," "A Shot in the Dark," and "The World of Henry Orient" over the course of the previous year, to put his career into perspective, and audiences clamored for more. I think this is Dean Martin's finest performance, mercilessly lampooning himself. The Beatles exchange is great: "I sing better than all of 'em put together...." The movie feels like a pre-Code film when you watch it, stunned by familiar actors being so adult. - @Saturday, January 28, 2012 3:17 PM

@soapbxprod It's an amazing film and Wilder's fantastic. Sellers had shot six weeks of footage. Wilder replaced him rather than wait and later regretted it: the movie would have soared with Sellers in the lead. Sellers had just married young Britt Ekland and it was widely believed that his early heart attack, at the utmost peak of his career when he was only 39, directly stemmed from copulating too enthusiastically and relentlessly with his ravishing bride. - @Saturday, January 28, 2012 3:00 PM

This is one wild movie. The way Dean Martin lampoons himself by playing himself is decades ahead of its time. Peter Sellers was playing Ray Walston's role but had a heart attack. - @Saturday, January 28, 2012 4:45 AM
