Genres & Description

Comedy Family

7.4 / 10

A compilation of primarly Laurel and Hardy shorts---From Soup to Nuts, Wrong Again, Putting the Pants on Philip, The Finishing Touch, Sugar Daddies and short clips from others---plus Max Davidson's Call of the Cuckoo and Dumb Daddies, with some cross-over Charley Chase footage, which, along with Robert Youngson's previous "The Golden Age of Comedy", "When Comedy Was King", "Days of Thrills and Laughter", led to a renewed interest in and a revival of television showings of Laurel and Hardy shorts. The cast was billed in order of their appearance: Oliver Hardy, Stan Laurel, Vivien Oakland (with a Vivian typo), Glen Tyron, Edna Murphy, Anita Garvin, Tiny Sanford, Jimmy Finlayson, Charlie Chase, Viola Richard, Max Davidson, Del Henderson, Josephine Crowell, Anders Randolf (as Anders Randolph), Edgar Kennedy, Dorothy Coburn, Lillian Elliott and "Spec" O'Donnell.

Agree with the others, would love to see the whole film uploaded onto YouTube, for the music they had for Liberty if nothing else. I used to have it on VHS too but it went missing. It was an excellent production, very enjoyable to watch! - @Sunday, August 27, 2017 5:42 PM

for God's sake could someone please upload this movie somewhere. I cant get the DVD anywhere and my VHS tape is destroyed. I grew up watching this and it brings me to tears every time i hear the background score on this movie. - @Friday, June 20, 2014 6:40 PM

I haven't seen this for years (about 20 give or take) one Easter Sunday on TV but have managed, at last,  to track down a supplier of the DVD (although out of stock at the moment). I'd totally forgotten about the short where Stan & Ollie end up high on a construction site in Liberty (1929) and randomly have to cope with everything from a total mean Crab to Hot Rivets up the bahookie, all causing near catastrophic consequences to (mostly) Ollie, as usual. Does anyone here know the name of the tune played on the start and end credits? It's haunted me ever since I last watched this. There are a few bars of it at the start of the trailer. Thanks! This was the second of Robert Youngson's two "silent" compilations for MGM (the first was "MGM's Big Parade Of Comedy" the previous year, in 1964, with several "talkie" sequences included). It was released shortly after Stan Laurel's death. - @Thursday, November 11, 2010 12:06 AM
