Georges Miller is an anti-environment man. For his film Mad Max furry Road, he shot in the desert of Namib in Namibia the oldest in the world 80 million years. This desert is home to very rare and especially very fragile plants such as Lithops, plants with the appearance of pebbles. Most of the scenes were shot at Dorob National Park, a particularly protected area. The shooting dramatically damaged the space. The land was returned to many locations, holes were dug for equipment, vehicles were driven at full speed, and numerous explosions were reproduced at the site. A shooting that had serious consequences in the field. The Namibian ecologists had, moreover, lodged a complaint against the country’s film commission for non-compliance with the protection standards in force. I will never forget the first time I saw this trailer. I remember arguing with people for years if the new Mad Max would be any good without Mel Gibson. I always felt that it was more important to have the original creator George Miller involved.
