In the 1920s, 9-year-old Chiyo gets sold to a geisha house. There, she is forced into servitude, receiving nothing in return until the house's ruling hierarchy determines if she is of high enough quality to service the clientele -- men who visit and pay for conversation, dance and song. After rigorous years of training, Chiyo becomes Sayuri, a geisha of incredible beauty and influence. Life is good for Sayuri, but World War II is about to disrupt the peace.

Being French American . Having traveled to Kyoto twice, I can tell that it is pretty hard to imagine a Gaiko, Maiko, Gaisha within a Chinese actress. It simply shows beauty of it without subtlety and delicacy. There's a reason why Gaisha are Gaisha. It is an Art that takes time to develop and only Elite Japanese businessman connessor could be able to be grounded with them. This seems nice. Who cares if it was accurate. It seems interesting though. I guess that's what the author wants it to be, and I wont stop him because Boy In The Striped Pajamas also made what was NOT like how the life was like. Many Holocaust survivors hate the story because both Shmuel and Bruno would have died at first sight but does it matter? I think it is more about the creativity, because this wasn't the ONLY video which had this problem.[the author wanted to let people learn about friendship even from an impossible setting itself.] Even if it wasn't reality, it is still a show, isn't it? Haven't read the book. Haven't seen it. The weirdest thing about it is... why is everyone speaking English? I know why. It just feels wrong. Of course there are plenty of films set in various parts of Europe, where they speak English with the regional accent. Not sure why this one feels out of place to me. What ever.
