Just watched this and I am quite conflicted with it. Nothing was worth mentioning in regards to technical aspects. It's all pretty ok. Holmes did a great job portraying this character though. However, there's little to talk about in this film other than the story. My biggest problems with it are that the relationship was extremely rushed. And it's a shame because despite not doing anything new, it was respectably developed considering how little time that took on screen. It actually got me to care about these characters. Another problem is that there are some inconsistencies in it. For instance, there's a scene in which Miss Meadows discovers something about a certain character (who isn't in the film for more than like 5 minutes) and honestly, for this particular character, it seemed way too cartoonishly stereotypical. And although it isn't nearly as a prominent trait as Meadows' personality, the thing is that she is a conflicted stereotype (for lack of a better term) in a regular city with normal people. My last problem is that it explores a few things that are very interesting in Holmes character. However, there's never a point where these things are set with a resolution. We get to see the cause of them, but there's never a convincing explanation of what these things mean to her now that everything is coming to a conclusion. Despite this, the characters, while not innovative, where very decently fleshed out. I'm surprised by how much I cared about Miss Meadows' love interest despite him having few traits. The film never asked me to accept that things change just because. Unlike this trailer, the movie turns dark in a very adequate pace. But it also let's the story play around with it. Towards the first act there's a turning point which was really surprising. And it made so much sense. It added layers and rewatchability, I'm not going to expand on this to avoid spoilers, but it's by far the best crafted thing in the film. It had some subtle foreshadowing to it also. They made smart decisions when choosing when to show Holmes face and when not to, and this is probably more than you need to know what I'm talking about. To finish, I need to mention the very last scene. The track that starts at 0:10 in this trailer sounds in this scene. It is beautiful, simple yet personal. It's nothing mind-blowing but it feels so carefully made. The film is self-aware at times and considerably dramatic at others. The things that it did right outweight those that it did wrong, but as I said, it is difficult to express my feelings on it. I feel inclined to give it a 7 but I'm going to uncomfortably give it a 6.5 Still, I'd feel better if it had been advertised more, rated better or gained a cult following, because this truly deserves to be watched. - @Friday, May 1, 2015 9:32 AM
