A "story inside a story," in which the first part follows a woman named Susan who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion. The second element follows the actual manuscript, called "Nocturnal Animals," which revolves around a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly. It also continues to follow the story of Susan, who finds herself recalling her first marriage and confronting some dark truths about herself.

the trailer doesn't do the film justice, they did what most trailers don't do nowadays and that is not spoil the film so the trailer sucks but the movie was amazing (unlike most modern movies where it is pretty much the opposite), recommend you watch it, great in every aspect from the acting, plot, music and cinematography (the start of the film might be a little slow but it will have you hooked to the screen once it gets into the thick of things) - @Sunday, January 14, 2018 2:42 PM

So many critics have been swift to judge the film on it's merits - The film is well shot, the acting is superb and suspense filled atmophere created and emotions you feel for each character is awe inspiring But it's also important to view what Nocturnal Animals is not - Intelligent, Thought Provoking and Award winning is to name but a few. In some ways it's over exaggerated simplicity is is own downfall. I'm not bashing the movie because I thought overall it was a good one, but I just think it was a huge shame that the "fictional" part wasn't the whole movie. I know it's mostly from a book but I thought the "none fictional" part was ok at best and for me these parts took away from what could've been a masterpiece! Although I thought Adams as well as Gyllenhaal was great in the "none fictional" part, overall it took away from the momentum on which the other part build. In the end, this movie was sadly a cock-teas in my opinion. I feel like I was robbed half a movie from seeing Tony (Jake Gyllenhaal), Detective Bobby (Michael Shannon) and Ray (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) who's rolls made this movie memorable.
