JC, Do you realise why it's called Northern soul not Southern soul. That's because Southerners have no soul and could never start a musical movement. As for tripe and dripping, pass the jellied eels gov'ner, horrible fuckers! - @Friday, January 20, 2017 8:38 PM

Most films set in the 70s what were made years after don't look anything like the 70s. This looked like it was made in the 70s! I didn't think anybody could do that but the wall paper, the cars, the houses the clothes and the hair were spot on. And everybody looked like they needed a good wash !! The two main actors were great too. I only watched this last night for the first time. I thought it was good. - @Thursday, September 3, 2015 10:25 PM

I am literally amazed at the comments praising this film! The costumes & clothes were absolutely spot on, the atmosphere of living in the seventies was well portrayed, but as a film, what a let down, I was SO disappointed !  I watched it on DVD & turned it off half way through, I thought it was absolute garbage, I did watch the remainder the next day but found it mostly depressing. where was all the great Northern Soul music?? Most of the soundtrack I did not recognise & I am a serious NS aficionado, this should have had a terrific soundtrack, but the music did not grab me at all, the dance sequences, what there was of them, could have been longer. I just found this film a huge disappointment!  No wonder it didn't get a general release. I don't remember Northern Soul in this way, yet I went to a fair few all nighters. in my time. - @Thursday, February 26, 2015 6:12 PM

I thought the film was a missed opportunity. Not that I was into that scene, but the missus was. She was disappointed. From the documentaries I've watched in the past, Northern Soul seems such a positive thing, driven by the pace of the music. I credit the "stars" that make an early appearance in the film, obviously parachuted in to help sell it. I don't think it was that necessary to hire them as the young actors in the film were superb. But the best actors in the World can't improve what ostensibly is a SHIT screenplay. We were starting to enjoy it, but the thin plot of ditching school and running away to find music, quickly faded away. Halfway through and the birth and expansion of the scene that we thought we were going to watch, was swallowed up by constant interruptions of police sirens, raids and drug taking every 10 mins. I don't think this represents the majority of the people that lived in this period. And it seems somehow to present a false view of not just Northern Soul, but the 1970's itself. I keep expecting kids today to ask us how we survived the seventies! I would have to tell them it was ok apart from the tank tops, the odd power cut and only 3 channels on the telly. The actors seemed to do a great job with the dancing, but my wife was on the scene back then and their were many things and characters in this film she did not recognise. It will be forgettable in the end and that's a shame because the scene is alive still and the story deserves to be told. Just don't tell it by using the "drama" of drugs. Not only has it all been done before, there are drugs associated with every field of music, so showing drug use doesn't set the Northern Soul scene apart from any other. There should of been plenty of positive, original things to tell about this story. I just hope they try again sometime in the future. - @Friday, December 12, 2014 12:20 PM

Great film just a few years before my time as I was born in 68 but I loved and still do the music. I remember a friend of mine who sadly passed away got me into northern soul once asked me to go back to his house and played me loads of tunes. He then got me to go to a youth club where all they played was northern soul. It was like a flash back and it brought a tear to my eye. - @Saturday, November 22, 2014 10:16 PM

Sorry Elaine...... its an elaborated  script, not everyone who was into the Northern Soul scene was a pill popping junkie, felt somewhat insulted  , on the other hand the music was brilliant toe tapping all the way through. - @Saturday, November 8, 2014 6:33 AM

No doubt we will see TV interviews from so called celebs like Lisa 'I never went' Stansfield and Pete 'produced shite pop and never went' Waterman.  Film looks ok, but probably centres around bloody Wigan Casino, and ignored Cleethorpes/Blackpool Mecca and the like. - @Thursday, October 16, 2014 8:03 PM
