Captain Red runs a hardy pirate ship with the able assistance of Frog, a dashing young French sailor. One day Capt. Red is captured and taken aboard a Spanish galleon, but thanks to his inventiveness, he raises the crew to mutiny, takes over the ship, and kidnaps the niece of the governor of Maracaibo. The question is, can he keep this pace up?

I remember the critics had a field day trashing this film. The most common complaints being Matthau's miscasting and Polanski being "adrift at sea" when it came to directing comedy. I disagree with them. Matthau was perfect as the pirate captain Red. Very amusing performance. And, the production value is top notch even for today. Those pirate ships and battles are great to look at. Charlotte Lewis isn't bad to look at either. Sure, the movie goes on for too long, but to call it a disaster is really overblown. It's passable.
