Tony Montana manages to leave Cuba during the Mariel exodus of 1980. He finds himself in a Florida refugee camp but his friend Manny has a way out for them: undertake a contract killing and arrangements will be made to get a green card. He's soon working for drug dealer Frank Lopez and shows his mettle when a deal with Colombian drug dealers goes bad. He also brings a new level of violence to Miami. Tony is protective of his younger sister but his mother knows what he does for a living and disowns him. Tony is impatient and wants it all however, including Frank's empire and his mistress Elvira Hancock. Once at the top however, Tony's outrageous actions make him a target and everything comes crumbling down.

Michael Stern

The movie is worth watching, but ten times so if you watch the 1932 original too. Seeing how closely the remake follows the original, and what Pacino borrowed from Paul Muni, and how many of the same issues are dealt with 50 years apart, makes both films better. - @Thursday, July 19, 2018 2:44 PM

totally panned when it first came out, but went on to become a cult classic a decade later. what exactly was that huge pile of coke? pacino refused to say in an interview as recent as a few years back, but i know 100% it wasn't the real thing. kind of violent even by today's standards. pacino's character is unusually over the top, but i guess he's supposed to be coked-up. it's a pretty good movie. - @Friday, October 28, 2016 3:56 AM
