A veteran samurai, who has fallen on hard times, answers a village's request for protection from bandits. He gathers 6 other samurai to help him, and they teach the townspeople how to defend themselves, and they supply the samurai with three small meals a day. The film culminates in a giant battle when 40 bandits attack the village.

It actually moved me to tears when the last two fallen samurai died in battle, near the end of the film. First the most gifted of them all and then followed by the most flawed of them all. I didn't want those two to die. - @Sunday, April 15, 2018 11:37 PM

Unfortunate that I have yet to find an American, or even very many Europeans who have the slightest notion of what Kurosawa presented in his films--oddly, I think the Chinese (never having won a war they picked with Japan) or perhaps the So. Koreans (never actually lost a war with Japan) both could give lessons to our three "experts" about the good side of the mans work (about which there is much to say) and bad (less attractive at least) side of his works (the Japanese have a litany where Kurosawa is concerned) Bottom like is this is my all time favorite movie--the US has never done anything that even comes close to the ability Kurosawa had to tell a story--even when he knows a lot of people will not like it--he truly had, and more importantly understood, the Samurai Spirit. - @Thursday, March 30, 2017 6:17 AM

I always thought that Kurosawa san's ode to violence was Throne of blood . The beauty of the fight choreography,as well as his sterling cinematography meld seemlessly into a gorgeous final comeuppance for Mifune\McBeth when he faces the archers of his enemies. whenever I see it I know it's a movie shot before I was born but I always think and sometimes say wow that one was close he's gonna get killed for sure. Now that's how you make a movie! I've seen it dozens of times lucky enough to see it on the big screen in Providence at the old Avon glorious. so check it out if you liked Samurai you'll love Throne of blood. - @Thursday, January 19, 2017 12:14 AM
